    Windlass Installation of 24' Explorer

The cleat is fastened to the pulpit only. The anchor hatch was undisturbed as the windlass was mounted on the pulpit fixture well forward of the hatch.. I have a separate "rock anchor" with rode that I keep in the anchor locker which I move before deploying the Danforth anchor. I installed...

    Windlass Installation of 24' Explorer

I rececntly had the same model windlass installed on my 97' Islander. The cleat was moved several inches forward of its' original location and works fine for securing the anchor rode. Works very well. yb

    Steering question

Thanks for the feedback. We tried hooking the bottle of steering fluid up to the reservoir with the factory fill hose and rotating the wheel many times. There may be some improvement but it is slight. The wheel rotation is "lumpy" and stiff. I am in San Carlos Mexico and will have to wait...

    Steering question

I have a 97' Islander with hydraulic steering. I think thats the proper term. It takes a lot of wheel rotation to make the engines move for turning. The resevoir at the helm is full but it acts like there is air in the line. Any suggestions or is this just the way it is? yb

    Adding chain to anchor rode

FYI I got a response from the Lewmar Tecnical people. They say that adding a connecting link is not a good idea. yb

    Adding chain to anchor rode

I am about to install my new Lewmar Profish700 windlass and I would like to add a length of chain ahead of the rope rode. If I join the two sections of 1/4" chain with a cold shut (split link) will this link fit thru the anchor windlass pawls O K ? yb

    Hard Starting Evinrude

I have a pair of Evinrude 150's. I have a difficult time starting the port engine and pulling the spark plugs I find them fouled with oil. In reading my Clymer Manual I see a warning to not squeeze the bulb connected to the oil tank as this will fill the carberators with oil. After reading...

    Adding battery charger?

I installed a 30 amp 3 bank charger and kept the existing batteries for a while longer. I have a Honda "suitcase size" gen set aboard so my dead battery risk is minimal. yb

Are G.W.'s pre wired for windlass?

I called Grady and got the same answer. "The prewire if installed would run from the helm to the bow and power should be taken off of a helm area buss bar". I too think this is not the way I want the windlass wired. I will run dedicated cabling from the battery for the windlass. Thanks to all...

Are G.W.'s pre wired for windlass?

I am about to install an anchor windlass and have been told that G/W's are pre wired at the factory for this install. I have poked around the anchor locker but have been unable to locate any cable ends. Can anyone comment on this? yb

    Anchor Windlass install

I have ordered a Lewmar Pro Fish 700. This has a "free fall" feature but I don't know if it also has a "power down" mode. I am going to install it with a foot control switch at the windlass. Considered the wireless feature but from past experience I choose to have my hands free. Thanks for...

    Anchor Windlass install

I am thinking seriously of adding a power anchor windlass to my 268 Islander. I want a foot pedal control at the winch as well as a control at the helm station.and I am wondering if a 12v motor will give me enough power, thinking I could go with a 24 v unit and wire the batteries accordingly...
