    Aft Bilge Removal under I/O

If it's a Rule, (Rule-a-matic) float switch, and you don't have a guard over it, you only need to remove the one screw, (opposite side of the paddle) and slide the entire switch out from the remaining screw. The mounting area under the float paddle is slotted. Hopefully the float paddle is...

    Fishfinder GPS

Garmin 530S gps/sounder... I just installed one of these on a friends boat. Seems like a real nice unit. Includes a dual beam transom mount transducer. Internal antenna, but will accept an external too. Built in chartography and also excepts the new g2 vision charts...

    motor surging

Yes Bob, I did clean it at the beginning of the season. I honestly can't say whether your problem is O2 sensor related or not, but it's definitely worth trying. Cleaning it can only help it's performance. I usuall just remove the sensor and let it soak in a bath of de-carbonizer, (engine...

    Interesting solution to steering issue

Good mechanic. :) I replaced the steering ram, (Seastar) last year on a 228 Seafarer. The older, original ram, (hc-5340-42) used the front mounting hole. The newer hc-5345 uses the real hole. It's a slightly shorter ram that gives you the same, full steering travel.

    228 Model number question...

Looks like they started using the Gradydrive bracket in 86, (they offered both, Seadrive and Gradydrive). http://www.gradywhite.com/customer/cata ... s/1986.pdf Toward the end, around page 25, they discuss the "new GradyDrive outboard mounting system".

    228 Model number question...

That's a good point. I think the reason they do that goes back to the Seadrives, (OMC's bracketed outboard) in the mid to early 80's. The full transom Seafarer, with the Seadrive, was just called a "228". Later on, they did away with Seadrives and started using the Grady bracket... "228G"...

    shifting into neutral?

Cable might be worn. Might just need adjusting, (on the motor's linkage).

    trim tilt remote control switch

For some reason Yamahaparts.com does not show a single binicale, (flush mount) remote control, but you can use their dual control for most parts, including the trim/tilt switch. #39 - http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamah ... parts.html Remove the screws in the plastic handle and it will...

No wonder dealers are going out of business

Nothing against salesmen, (cough)... but with a used boat, I'd much rather buy form a private seller, than from a dealer. You get a real good idea of how the boat was maintained and cared for. The owner can explain how ever single feature works, (or doesn't, lol). Your made aware of...

    Trim indicator quit working?

Assuming it's a Yamaha, (if not, other brands use a similar lever set up). It's a black plastic lever with a bail type return spring. It has a variable resister inside. They often freeze up. Here's a diagram, ("trim sender", item #3) - http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamah ... parts.html I...

    motor surging

If your 100% sure the surging probelm is gone, then ignore this 1st paragraph... if not, like I mentioned earlier... get a portable, (6 gallon) gas tank and connect it after the boats main filter, (Racor?). This will eliminate the boats entire fuel tank/system. You might have a kinked/restricted...

    motor surging

Surging is a symptom of fuel starvation, so yes... it could be the vst filter. I would start by replacing your main fuel/water seperator filter, and then the motors primary filter. If either of those are restricted, it will starve the vst tank, (kind of like a carbeurator bowl/float). Then...

    REMOVING BRACKET BRASS DRAIN PLUG...

Standard garboard drain plug should be 1/2" pipe thread, (npt). Original drain plug for the grady bracket should have been aluminum, (atleast the older ones were). Get yourself a Dremel tool, with the thin cutting disc. Cut a slot across the face and use a large slotted screw driver. Still...

    seat cushions

I had a 91 Gulfstream. The seats were made by Wise for GW. WD562's are basically the same seat, just a generic version. Check out this link and see if yours look similar - http://www.wiseseats.com/wise_marine_offshore_562.html Some differences; The generic WD562 is white, the Grady version...

Adventure 208 Vee-Berth Drain -- Where does it drain?

The plug is in the tube that comes from the fuel tank compartment... not the forward cabin. That owners manual link I posted, (page 65) also states the plug is on stern drive boats only. I don't agree with that, because I've seen the plug on plenty of outboard models. Anyway, water may have made...
