    Bilge water in new boat

I'm impressed by the effort that you say GW is putting into preventing water in the bilge. Even cup holders now drain overboard? (I've never owned anything newer than a '96.) After reading many similar threads on this forum, I have given up on worrying about small amounts of water in my...

Nice, thanks very much! Will try this out soon.

    1.5V

Hi all, The dome light in my aft cabin hasn't worked since I bought the boat. Finally pulled it down last night and exposed the wires leading to it. My multimeter is reading 1.5V. I was expecting something closer to 12 or 0, and so I wonder what could lead to 1.5. Is 1.5V the kind of...

    M Costa Marine?

Aha, yes indeed, I did recently download some old brochures. (Daydreaming about a 265.) Maybe I'll use Halfhitch's credit card for the order too. ;)

    M Costa Marine?

Yea, I certainly could. The Google results check out, but I'm not too interested in working with a dealer in the Dominican Republic. Just curious if others had ever received a similar email, but I'm probably one of the only forum members located in the Caribbean.

    M Costa Marine?

Hi all, Anyone heard of M Costa Marine? Received an email from them recently, claiming to be a Grady Dealer for the Caribbean, and that they were given my email address from Grady in the US, who sends out contacts of Grady owners in the area.

    Adventure cabin drain

Or, maybe until you add a bit more (or more water) to flush it out. Probably impossible to get every drop to drain out, since (as Dennis said) those bilge compartments are connected by a pipe that isn't necessarily flush with the floor, or even with the wall itself.

    Battery Issue

Thanks everyone, this is very helpful, and super interesting. The neighbor bought the boat from our other neighbor a few months ago. At the time of purchase, the previous owner (other neighbor) said that for some reason the outboard only starts when the selector switch is on "both". When I...

    Battery Issue

Seasick and SuzukiDave, could you explain this a bit further? Isn't it just that one battery's negative needs to go to the other's negative, and that negative needs to go to a ground? How is it possible to mess up the ground cables? Or are you referring to the negative cable coming out of...

    Battery Issue

Thanks Seasick, Yes, sorry for failing to mention: he can use the power-trim, and the outboard will turn over, just a bit, but not start. (I haven't heard this myself, so will try to be around the next time he tests it.) I'll help him check for corrosion, loose connections, etc. Thanks for...

    Battery Issue

Hi all, My neighbor is having trouble with his 'otherboat'. His single Yamaha 150 will not start unless he selects 'both' on the selector switch. But this is true even with two new batteries (group 24 starters). I'm guessing it's an amperage issue, caused by some bad connections somewhere...

    Removal of trim/tilt assembly.

What a pain! I have no insight to share, but am commenting to 'watch' and hear what works out in the end. Hope it goes easy when you return to it in the spring.

    Sacrificial Anodes and Galvanic Isolators

Thanks both. Dennis, maybe I need to update my profile, but I'm now in a 1995 272, having sold the 208 about 15 months ago. I'll check to see if I have anodes, and will do some reading on what they do vs what a galvanic isolator does.

    Unlock Old Seacock?

Ok, I'll try pulling harder! I have some pipe that I can use for a bit of leverage. And of course I have white vinegar, which I might try before hunting down PB Blaster.

    Islander vs sailfish late 90's

Hi there. I am very happy with my '95 Sailfish 272, but then I live where I can by picky about the weather, so I don't go out in rough conditions. My understanding of the Islander is that it's basically the Sailfish with an easy-to-tow beam. So if you'll be towing, I'd take that pretty...

    Unlock Old Seacock?

Thanks Tony. The only question for me is whether I can find it here in Nassau ... If I can, it will be double the price!

    Unlock Old Seacock?

Dennis and Seasick, thanks very much. Sounds like I need some PB Blaster, a section of pipe, and some patience. Hopefully that'll do the trick.

    Sacrificial Anodes and Galvanic Isolators

Hi all, I've read on this forum a little bit about sacrificial anodes, and have begun to wonder whether my trim tabs have them. My boat is in the water, so I'll need to dive in order to check. But then I learned that my boat has a galvanic isolator, which I understand prevents corrosion of...

    Unlock Old Seacock?

My 272 is 23 years old, and the seacock I have in mind may be original. It's locked in the 'closed' position, and I'm scared of pulling too hard on the handle, lest I tear the whole thru-hull out of place. Any advice? WD-40? Or is a green-corroded seacock never going to unlock? I suppose...

Drain on Bottom of 272 Sailfish

Hi GradyChris, I have a '95 272, so will be happy to be a conversation partner if helpful. It sounds to me like you've discovered an intake for one of the accessories. Yes, the manual should be helpful, and you should also track down which seacock (if one is installed) can lock that pipe shut.
