I installed a windlass myself on my 255 several years ago. I believe I used a 14# Lewmar stainless delta with 25' of chain.

If your dealer can get an F300, I would roll with it. The F300 is one of the most reliable engines made by Yamaha. You will be happy with it's performance.

Keep your eyes open for a newly used low hour Freedom 235 on the east coast. They are out there but you cannot be afraid to travel if the deal is right.

With this market, it appears that my 255 Freedom will be my first and last saltwater boat.

As Mustang mentioned, pick out the unit(s) you think you want. Then go to their spec sheets to get the rough and finish size openings. Cut out some paper or cardboard to the spec sizes and see what fits. When it comes to screen size and resolution, I'm one of those "bigger is better" guys.

I do the same. When my boat is being left at the dock, I button up all the canvas, pop the deck plate lids, and open some of my compartment to allow some air flow.

They should be Beckson plates. Using your favorite search engine, you should be able to find them easily from various vendors.

I'm curious what the yamaha techs are using to get these carriers off.

Great Lakes made the OEM canvas for my 2011 255. I replaced some panels and they still had the patterns so the price and wait times were reasonable. I would check with them first since you boat is a year off from mine.

On my 255, the windlass harness was coiled up and ziptied inside the anchor locker. The other end was also coiled and found inside the console near the power block.

Check the screen located in-line at the pump. If clogged, pump may not prime. Had this problem with mine and the screen was all gunked up with algae slime.

I have used the Spectrum gelcoat several times and it was a perfect color match. Easy to use and sand.

In the 7 years that I have owned my Freedom, I have always filled my gas tank whenever going to the gas dock. I would then reset the control panel and it would read 135 gallons available. If I partially fill the tank and did a reset, would it read 135 or the partial tank amount? Or if I did...

I would not tow that boat with anything less than a F250 or similar 3/4 ton truck.
