    NJ fishing reports

Hi Skunk, thank you for all the reports and Intel! The weekend weather looks great so I'll be running my brother's 28' Regulator out of the Highlands this Saturday and Sunday. Planning to Seabass in that wreck zone (not sure what it's called) about 5nm North of LI / Humpty where those big...

    Best way to repair this?

Another vote for black Starboard. I think I used 3/8"

Cutting the stern wall of unused fuel tank compartment? ?

Even if you cut the hole in the bulkhead (which sounds difficult and a bad idea to start with) you'll still need octopus arms to service that pump through a small opening anyway. My advice is find a skinny kid that can follow instructions and wants to earn a couple bucks (if such a kid...

    MFD's

If I had room I'd install 2 but need to be mindful of how much electricity they'll use, especially if you like to leave them on while fishing.

Boat camping (sleeping on board) with a CPAP machine

I camp out in my Seafarer all the time and can't sleep without my CPAP. The unit I have from Philips has an optional 12v cord I just plug into a 12v outlet I installed in the cabin. I don't use the humidifier because it uses 4x the electricity but I'm usually camping in the summer when it's...

    Recommended VHF Antenna Length?

Agreed. I just installed an 8' on the roof of my 228. I bought the shims but it stands straight without so I omitted them, very stable, great reception. Let me know if anyone wants a great deal on the shims. Also have a spare set of shims for my TACO outrigger bases I didn't use.

Grady white seafarer 228 live well

"Also do you get much water coming back up through the self bail scuppers?" I have a 9.9 kicker on one side and 3 batteries on the other. Full live well, fuel, coolers, crew it'll be a little wet.

    4HP KICKER?? Enough to push a 246 at 7knts?

No way. My Seafarer 228 gets just over 5kts with an almost new Yamaha T9.9, just under 6kts if I tilt up the main engine. Against a strong headwind and seas, with the curtains on I barely make headway and I've had windy days I could not tack into the wind if I didn't tilt up or help steer...

    7/31 Ocean City MD tuna

I made another tuna run on my Seafarer 228 out of OC last Sunday. Really calm so i was able to cruise at 24kts going out which is rare and good since neither of my crew had ever been offshore. Got a little late start and arrived at Massys around 7:30, probably 75 boats or so. Pulled into the...

    Recommended VHF Antenna Length?

Hi KY Grady, I'm getting ready to install the same antenna and bracket on my Seafarer and notice you have leveling blocks installed. Did you fabricate them yourself or where did you purchase them?

    Oregon Inlet Tuna

The area I fished is about 7 miles north of what they call the "Tuna Hole" which is about 35NM east of Oregon Inlet. It's where the continental shelf quickly drops from 400' to 2000', there's a lot of structure and this is the closest the gulf stream gets to the US east cost outside of FL. My...

    Oregon Inlet Tuna

Earlier this week I ran my Seafarer out of Oregon Inlet for some of the best tuna fishing I've seen in a while.

Battery upgrade for 228 and a question

Understood. I'm just looking for a little boost and something to help top them off if I put the boat away a little low and maintain them if I'm away for an extended period.

Battery upgrade for 228 and a question

That would be nice, what battery monitor will provide charge level? I have room on my dash for another small display or I'd be interested in something that would integrate with my Garmin 8510. I'm planning to add a 100w solar panel on the roof and it looks like most solar charge controllers...

Battery upgrade for 228 and a question

I considered the Blue Sea system but my understanding is when the motor is running, it parallels all batteries and I was told it's not good to have different battery types on the same system. The Yamaha isolator keeps house and starting batteries completely separate, unless I combine them for...

    Fishing ?

The boat is all packed up and hitting the road in a couple hours for the next month in Big Pine Key, many pics to follow.

Battery upgrade for 228 and a question

Same start battery No on board charging yet, I store the boat in a yard with no power so the next step is to install a 100w solar panel on the roof with a solar charge controler The main engine is an 05 F225 that comes with the aux charging port so I just installed the Yamaha isolator lead...

Battery upgrade for 228 and a question

Thank you, that addresses my main concern. I plan to leave the house switch on "both" most of the time to keep them parallel but would like the ability to isolate them if one has a problem. #2) Just realized I omitted the pic of the red button. Assuming it's a breaker, should it be...

Battery upgrade for 228 and a question

I finally completed the battery upgrade in my 228 as i just added a bunch of electronics and getting ready to install a sterio. Now I have two Optima group 31 AGM deep cycle for house on one switch connected to the motor with the isolator cable and one Optima high performance starting battery...

Sideshift bow thruster to a Grady

My brother's boat has it with twins and it's hardly worth using, can't imagine it on a single.
