    Wash-down pump trouble-shooting tips...

My washdown pump on my 2003 228 just stopped working. It's a shureflo. I wasn't able to find the fuse for this puppy. Any hints on how to start trouble-shooting this thing?

    Recommendations for Binoculars

Jake, I agree with the above comment that it depends on your use conditions. I have two pairs on board: 1. A pair of 7X50 Steiner's that are my primary workhorse. They're in a box on my helm station. I use this for quick visual id's (e.g., checking to see if the boat that's bearing-down on...

    Fuel Guage Accuracy

Pretty common problem...your fuel sending unit may be bad. Easy fix, but it will likely happen again. Maybe somebody has a suggestion on a better quality sending unit than the typical ones.

    303 Protectant

I've never used it on fiberglass, but highly recommend it for anything rubber or vinyl that's exposed to direct sunlight. It's magic stuff.

    Starting my yami after months...

So, maybe to you Midwesterners this is no big deal, but out here in California, normally, I make a practice of starting my engine (2003 Yami 225F) at least once every 1-2 weeks...regardless of whether or not I'm going out to fish. Well, we've had some major closures on the west coast recently...

    Seafarer 226 versus 228

While they are both nice boats, I went with the 228 and love it. I've only once lost a fish because of the line nicking the prop...mostly I don't find it to be a big deal that the engine sticks out so far on the bracket. An added bonus of having a full transom is that you can add a few more rod...

    Outriggers

I have Lee's outriggers. Quality-wise, IMHO, Lee's is the best quality outrigger on the market. I looked at all of them side by side and can clearly see that Lee's is by far the best constructed, most rugged unit out there. I have them on my hardtop 228g and have to agree with the previous...

    Water in the bilge

My two pence is that a little water in the bilge is really no big deal. It's a boat for goodness sake. I think we Grady owners tend to obsess too much about bilge water because of the ancient history of transom issues...IMHO Grady has learned their lessons and make the necessary changes to...

    KVH Autocomp 1000

I have a Furuno fluxgate and it's mounted very far forward and low in my 228's bow. Works like a charm. I installed it on a small shelf made of marine starboard lumber. My particular unit is pretty rugged and listed as waterproof, but I agree that some amount of care should be taken in...

    Cushions

Like many of you, I use my boat almost exclusively for fishing and crabbing. As a result, I've never found a use for all the myriad of cushions that came with the new boat...they just would be in the way and would get full of blood. To date, I've never once slept in my cabin...it's too full of...

    Battery Maintenance/Replacement question

Depends on many factors (e.g., Do you trickle charge them when docked? what type of batteries they are. How you manage your battery banks, etc.), but a good rule of thumb is every 3 years. Look at it this way: w/o your batteries, you could find yourself in a very bad situation...it's just not...

    Autopilot on a 222 Fisherman

Gross Profit, IMHO, Jimmy is right. You'd be wise to follow his suggestions...it won't be the cheapest route, but you'll be happiest in the long run.

    228 electronics on starboard

Yes, it will fit fine. You should get the paper templates for your fish finder and lay them out on the Starboard lumber...
