Definitely agree with transom and fuel tank concerns from above. Also, the SS150 is a great motor but wonder if the 209 is underpowered? If it were me nothing less than a 175 for that hull. Good luck and let us know what you decide.
Thank you for the update Fish. I have a 99 180 and have similar concerns. I am curious as to what the inside of your transom will look like but hoping for the best for you.
Transom cap, fuel tank, absolutely. Those transom caps suck and water gets in, blah, blah, blah, you know the rest. 18 year old fuel tank could have corrosion, pull the inspection plates and have a look (and sniff). Good luck, that's a nice boat.
You and family are lucky. CO poisoning is no joke. I've an ox66 as well and they are smokers, with the conditions you mentioned I'm not surprised at all.
I agree with Speasm. Where will you be boating? Ocean , lakes ? A 130 is probably minimal, a 150 is preferable. I have a buddy had the same setup and said the 115 was not entirely adequate and I can say with a 99 and a Salt water series 150 I’ve never been disappointed. As I mentioned on...
I've been dealing with this drip from my '99 SWS OX66 150 for over 10 years. Small leak coming from the oil tank on the engine that builds up over the course of the season bottom of the engine pan and finds its way out when engine is tilted. Nothing significant in my case, no major loss of...
...and I'd take a look at that transom cap as well. Appears to be some corrosion left and right or maybe I'm not seeing it just right. But if so, you could probably take care of it now before it gets worse. Enjoy the boat!
Sean, I've had a '99 18 Sportsman for 12 years with the same motor (well, '99 150 SWS). My port battery reads/ blinks 12.2 volts every year, every startup and run and I've never had any issues. Cause has never been determined. Starboard side always reads 14.0 or higher and quite frankly I...
Nola, FWIW, I have a '99 Sportsman with a 150 ox66 that we installed a Yamaha FMS in about 6 years ago. The FMS has been extremely accurate, however I cannot remember what the installation cost was :hmm . I can say I've been very happy with the FMS and certainly rely on it rather than the...
