Bottom Paint for Trim Tabs - Question

My Bennetts are painted along with the rest of the hull. Bennett states in their instructions that you may even paint the plastic drum with normal antifouling.... not sure about the Lenco's, but I would not think different... Just keep in mind that you'll need a different primer (metal primer)...

    Rub Rail

I did get them from a GW dealer in the end for approx 16 USD plus postage for the pair (this is for a 2000 208). Same exact item as original = made to fail (cheap plastic, thin walls, prone to UV death). Just could not source fitting Stainless parts...

    Hardtop Frame Material?

... and if I had the courage, I'd remove mine and paint it all white. Previous owner did not bother with fresh water, so there's lots of pitting and it annoys the hell out of me, albeit only aesthetic. Anodising is great, just until you break through its skin - then, no repair, no paint will...

208 Switch Panel Upgrade w/ Pics

Here's one lucky captain! Good stuff! Out goes the fake wood (I hate it, too, just waiting for the right time to replace) - in comes the fake carbon fiber!!! :dance

    Classic Grady

Funny how you get the "woodplank" surface on the hull of these old models - resembling the typology of the old (and reliable?) wooden boat!

Filling holes on Hard-Top and electronics box

Wow Brian, I am obliged - this is great.... tape on top, too, countersinking... all the right tips. Great, will get to it in the next few weeks. Gotta source the materials and wait for the weather to improve a little. Hey Giorgos, the bag idea I've used with wall plaster in the past. Might be...

Filling holes on Hard-Top and electronics box

Hello all, here's a simple (?) question that I'd like to put forward... just in case: on my recently-acquired GW there are multiple screw holes on the Hard-top (old beamer, old GPS antenna, unknown holes etc). How can I fill them in? Some holes are small diameter and deep (well, the top's...

Washing the exterior of under-the-floor fuel tank / GW 208

Good morning all, My factory-installed, original fuel tank has accumulated dirt/gunk over the years - I can see through the deck-plates. It is a plastic Moeller tank and is permanently installed* under the floor. Has 2 exposed (i.e. unpainted) wooden planks holding it into place**. Is it...

    Bottom Paint

Well, you just got yourself a boat - I presume in order to enjoy it. Why worry about resale already, since it's new for you? This boat, like any other boat of that caliber, will cost you money in the long term.... gas, repairs, safety gear and electronics, fishing stuff... the list is endless...

    INAVx software for IPAD

I've done lots of research on this, trying to avoid shelling out 1500 Euros on a single-mission digital gadget (the chartplotter). Here's your man: http://blog.francis-fustier.fr/en/traverser-latlantique-avec-un-ipad/ - this guy went accross the Atlantic with an iPad. As for me, I'm still not...

    Onboard "must have" list

In addition to the aforementioned, may I add some old-school necessities: - bucket (a couple, possibly a collapsible one) - for emptying out water - a hand-operated bilge pump - a sea-anchor (drogue), especially useful if you're out of power and the wind takes you towards the rocks (also very...

    Seal Rub Rails

I believe that removing the rub rail and sealing the seam itself will look neater - so that the rail itself hides the sealant. Otherwise, you'll be seeing horrible sealant all over your boat! Having said that, I hope that it is easy enough to re-fit the old rail over the edge of the boat. I've...

    Seal Rub Rails

Hi there, should not be too difficult (if a little boring) to remove the rub rail and apply a decent (3M, Sika) sealant - let to dry and then re-screw the rub rail in place! I guess it's worth it - I am about to do it myself in the next couple of weeks...

Battery state monitoring on dual battery setup

@ BobP: NEWMAR DCV and Blue Sea systems make these gorgeous things - cheers for the tip. Will probably do it, after I finish the basic rebuild (see if there's any dosh left - these things are expensive!) @Seasick Aha, I've got the digital gauges (2003 pedigree) - will check them out when I get...

Battery state monitoring on dual battery setup

Cheers Seasick, I know I'm always a little over the top - although in this case a Voltmeter would be ok, no? As for the Yammi gauge, I've not seen a Voltage number.... maybe I need to check again. From what I know the voltage that you see on the chartplotter (as you mention) is not precise...

Battery state monitoring on dual battery setup

Hello all, I am currently rewiring part of my new-old 208. It's running a Yammie 225 + kicker and has two batteries. I intend to install the Blue Sea "add-a-battery" system (1 starter bat. and 1 house bat.) and was wondering how to best monitor my two batteries. Dual volmeters? Ampere-meters...
