Looking to install a seperate fish finder.

2 advantages of sticking with Garmin: 1) if you have a failure of your main unit. Run your secondary and you are still boating/fishing. Meaning you can enjoy your day on the water and the week or two while the broken unit is being repaiered. 2) you don't have to learn two operating systems...

Installing Garmin AP and upgrading to a 4212 Display

And apparently the vhf should be 20+ inches, maybe 24"? from the compass. I may swap the AP controller and VHF. But I don't like the idea of the microphone wire hanging down by my leg. I get the feeling that someone will catch it sooner or later and rip it out?

Installing Garmin AP and upgrading to a 4212 Display

I think I found some good places for the new electronics. i looked through a bunch of sales listings for 282s and saw their configurations. So here's what and why I'm thinking about where things will go. The 4212 will be towards the starboard side so that the new VHF can be easier for the...

Installing Garmin AP and upgrading to a 4212 Display

Should be a fun weekend. I sold my Garmin 4208 to my buddy and picked up a 4212. Gonna install that and the Garmin AutoPilot (or most of it) this weekend. I also have a few hundred I need to spend strictly on Garmin goodies, so I thought I'd add a VHF200 (and maybe the extra wired mic) and...

Cabin courtesy lights are out - 282 Sailfish

Did you check the breakers at the battery switches? Not sure about the 2001, but my 2007 has 4 breakers at the stern panel. Way too much for it to be bulbs.

    Anyone mount rodholders here? 282

Trying to figure out a better way of storing rods. We troll 4 (sometimes 6) dedicated rods for tuna and have 4 for iron, live bait, swim baits, etc. I know the rods in the rocket launcher are a pain to get to because of height. I want pretty much each rod to have its own holder, and none...

    1992 Grady Dolphin Hatches

Frank or Lee with seasnellmarine.com make tons of stuff out of starboard that is very affordable. I found them at THT in the classifieds. I know at least one guy had them make new hattches and was very pleased. I have a few things from them and am pleased.

    Grady 258 & 282 input

Twins, twins, twins. A 9.9 hp kicker isn;t going to do anything for you 50 miles out to sea, or anywhere really. having the knowledge that you have a strong backup means tons. Only issue with both going would be fuel or dead batteries, but that would kill a single 250 too. I love having...

Garmin AP install on 2007 282 Sailfish

I'm finally getting around to installing the Garmin AP on my Sailfish. I'm looking for where others have their components installed (not the display controller). Not sure if I want to mount the pump and ECU in the forward bilge (under the midberth), in the stern bilge with the 3 batteries, or...

    Grady 258 & 282 input

A couple weekends ago we made a 100 mile RT ride, most of it in either head on or following 2-3' windwaves, with the occassional 3'+. After getting pounded trying to do about 18-20 mph, I increased the rpms to 4,500 and lowered the tabs to about 70% and we rode right on top of EVERYTHING at...

2007 282 12,500# and my 2007 2500HD Chevy cc, longbed, with Duramax/Allison knows full well the boat is back there. No way you should consider safely towing that boat with a 1/2ton. I suspect you could sleep mom and small kid in the midberth and dad and small kid in the forward V-berth...

    sailfish rocket launcher height

I'm having a custom rocket launcher built for my Sailfish. 7 holders up top. I'm wondering what you would change about yours or any recommendations for mine, especially where would you want the top of your rod holder to be relative to the top of the hardtop?

wet folks behind the helm seats, rocket launcher

2007 282 Sailfish. No rocket launchers yet, but I'm having some built. Right now, when we take water over the bow or our normal rainy conditions (seattle), any water that hits the hardtop ends up dripping down onto the baitwell and fishbox seating area behing the helm seats. No problem for...
