Need or at least interested in finding a coating to replace the bottom paint with some coating like Gelcoat or even some type of plastic coating. I heard there may be a process that involves a plastic type coating that last for many years.

    Portable jump starter?

I was told by an electronics specialist that you should NOT switch battery systems while engines are running. That will create the possibility of blowing diodes in the alternators(s). UNLESS you have the proper battery switch which I believe he said is the Blu-Seas. Check with your local marine...

What do you recomend twin 150's or twin 200's

Although I have 1997 2-strokes, the 150's are a proven engine and PLENTY of power for the Gulfstream. I launch with the motors all the way down and then trim up for cruising. When I get out to troll and finish my setup, I cutoff one and troll on one. This allows mine fuel burn to drop below...

23 Gulfstream Range and Capabilities Offshore

I have had my '97 offshore as far as 40 miles down in the Hatteras area. We watched the weather VERY CAREFULLY as it can change in that region quickly. Fishing was great. Wahoo, Blackfin Tuna and Dolphin of various sizes.

    Navigation light problem

I'm reasonably sure that the lights on the top should work as follows: Nav lights on -- the rear white light and forward red/green nav lights. Anchor position -- both the forward and rear facing white lights "ON". Red/green navigation lights indicate a moving vessel --- Not one at anchor. I...

Fuel consumption twin 1987 yamaha 150's

I have a pair of SW Series II 150's on my Gulfstream. Fuel usage is usually about 14-15 GAl Per Hr at 3400 cruise. When I troll on one engine, it's about 1.7 - 2GPH. If you decide to rebuild the carbs, Check the floats for proper height and also make sure they are not leaking which will cause...

Torque Tab on lower unit GONE!

Thanks for the replies. I have worked on engines, transmissions, rears/axles and all sorts of stuff since age 14 and have never had a bolt back out the way this one would have had to do so. I'm thinking that someone smacked it with a rubber hammer to loosen it and then removed it. This was on...

Hi guys --- I'm talking about the tab on the lower unit that is adjusted to off-set prop torque. I installed new ones last fall and when I got to the boat last week, boat is trailered, I noticed that the right hand engine had the tab MISSING. The guy at the marina said they come off all the...

Traveling the N.C. and S.C. coast question

Not sure how long ago you have played in the inlets, but be SURE to check the Coast Guard "Notice to Mariners" for all the areas you plan to access. Places like Lockwood Folley at the West end of Oak Island tends to silt-in very fast and can become blocked to even the smallest boat. Fuel wise...

    Swin Platform --Fix or replace

Took a different route to fix this for now. I used a 1/2 inch thick piece of starboard and cut it to fit under the platform. I chalked the area with high quality silicon and clamped the board in place. Then placed the ladder in position and drilled the 4 screw holes and 2 additional ones. I made...

First day on the water w 208, cruise speed off ?

To eliminate the hub slippage, just remove the prop and have the hub checked. At this point, you don't know the condition of the hub and it is an easy place to start. It may seem tight while on the engine, but when under extreme load it can still slip.
