    A Grady-White lemon?

We were plagued by a leaky cabin for the first two years after buying our 2005 Gulfstream. It turned out that the rub rail or the joint underneath it was not properly sealed during manufacturing. Our Grady dealer, Port Harbor Marine in Portland Maine, never gave up on the problem, and...

Moving from Gulfstream to Marlin - any advice?

All, We love our Gulfstream but have been considering a move up to a new (or newish) Marlin. Is there anyone out there that has made this specific move? If so, was the Marlin all that you were hoping for in comparison to the Gulfstream? We're looking primarily to extend our days...

Backing into Seas with Your Yamaha Four Strokes

Has anyone ever buried their Yamaha four stroke(s) while backing into seas? I'm curious as to how easily these engines could be drowned/flooded/stalled etc. If this did happen to you, what was the remedy? I was in short period 3'-5' yesterday and had to be careful not to over wash my...

Anchoring technique to prevent loosing an anchor

Jim, nice description and some neat photos. Your post is perfect in terms of how we retrieve our anchor without a windlass.

Anchoring technique to prevent loosing an anchor

Smoky, to answer your question directly, you need an anchor ring. They can be found in many marine stores including West Marine. We use ours frequently in the Gulf of Maine on lots of rocky bottoms to a depth of 300'. I've never encountered a problem or failure to retrieve the anchor. Google...

shake down cruise gone bad, water in the fuel question

First of all, I'm not a mechanic..... To me it sounds like multiple problems. 1. The log doesn't seem to be an issue. 2. The batteries may be low if they haven't been used for three weeks. How long was the shakedown cruise before problems arose? Batteries are a mystery to me but I don't...

    Electronics decision

Just a quick note to say my Raymarine equipment has been nothing but trouble. 2005 C80, radar, fish finder and Sirius weather radar. I've had to have the main unit and the radome replaced at my cost since it's out of warranty.

How soon until you're back in?

April 1, as always. Nothing like having the whole Maine coast all to yourself. Haddock (arguably the best tasting fish in the world) is always a good early catch, and Cod season starts April 15. Hope some of you guys make it up to enjoy our state, it's a magical place seen from the water.

    08 gulfstream 232

I think your pricing is very good. You're going to love the boat. I have had a lot of trouble with my Raymarine gear. The main unit (C80) has been repaired, the radome has been replaced, etc, etc. Just about any name brand VHF will do these days, I use Standard Horizon. Make sure it has...

    EPIRB Mounting Location

Pez, thanks for contributing. One of the neat things about this site is all the variation in our boating styles and situations. For example, in my Gulfstream there's really no room for a ditch bag in the helm area, and I hate having anything cluttering the cockpit for someone to trip over...

    EPIRB Mounting Location

Well, thanks to the Cat 2 folks for weighing in. For my purposes, the Cat 1 is best. I can deploy it manually and if there's ever a circumstance that prevents me from doing so I've still got hope. ACR says that their hydrostatic release unit releases in 4-13 feet of water. From keel to...

    EPIRB Mounting Location

I'm hoping to avoid the age old Cat 1 versus Cat 2 discussions. If a Grady owner has a Cat 1, what's the best place on the boat to put it? Any Cat 1 owners out there that can share their thinking? Thanks

    EPIRB Mounting Location

Hi folks, Getting ready for the season and one thing on my list for the past few years has been an EPIRB. So, I've purchased an ACR iPro 406 Cat 1. I went Cat 1 (auto release) simply for another level of backup, i.e. if for any reason we can't manually deploy the device there's some hope...

    250 4-stroke on 90 grady-too much weight?

As with many of the technical questions on this forum, it's a good idea to check in with Grady. Be careful of some of the less obvious engineering-related issues. My 2005 232S came with a factory installed 250. During my pre-purchase inspection I found a small crack inside the transom near...

    Gulfstream Power

True Grace, Congrats on the 232S. Close quarters handling will be greatly improved by trimming your engine up about halfway, especially in reverse. When the engine is all the way down the reverse thrust simply bounces off the back of the boat resulting in little movement. Trimming up...
