    Vista Top Hnts

If you haven't done it already, try to get some lubricant in there. I used spray silicone to free up the zippers on my old curtains. They were frozen by what I assumed was corrosion from salt. Avoid petroleum based products like penetrating oil as it will stain the fabric if you get it on it...

    Took the boat out today...

Many years ago I boated in CT and we had the long wait to get the bigger boats in the water. We started the SCUBA season on Easter Sunday (unless it came late) but that was from trailerable boats. Water usually was around 35 degrees and none of us had dry suits, just custom wet suits. I...

    Took the boat out today...

It was a beautiful, sunny day today here at the river tho' the wind made it a bit chilly. Had to take the boat out for a ride. I've learned to really pump the primer bulb until it can't be squeezed any more. The boat started right up but of course, laid down the usual blue smoke screen that...

    DOCK BOXES

Rubbermaid makes various size deck boxes that snap together. I bought the XL model, 5E39, at Home Depot for about the same price Amazon wanted for it ($139.99). The XL model is 16 cu ft and I keep all my boat cushions and stuff in it. The boxes are lockable but are a lot lighter duty than a...

    TRAILERING YOUR BOAT SOUTH

Hey Dennis. Just watched some of your videos - you're having entirely too much fun. It's a shame to have to do all that fishing by yourself. Wish I could join you. GAry 89 Overnighter

    Remote Control Spotlight

I can't help with the spot light as I carry a portable but I wanted to share this with you. My neighbor had a spotlight mounted on her boat so she could see crab pot bouys on the rivers and in the Chesapeake. Trouble is, she turns it on and keeps it on for extended periods, like having head...

    Need Info on 265 Express

I don't understand your urgency to repower until you have to. If you want specific motors, continue shopping until you find what you want. As you pointed out, you can get later model year boats with those motors for less money. If you do repower this one, know you won't be able to get your...

    2000 Johnson starter problems

I do but haven't gone long distances. I have an extended cab 4x4 - 4.0 litre engine and 5 speed manual tranny. The only time it struggles is on the hills at highway speeds. The 4x4 suspension is very stable - it doesn't get jerked around by the boat/trailer. I've towed it with a neighbor's...

REPOWER: Time for new outboards???? Need advice

    >> ... but I will loose a LOT of speed that the boat currently has with the twin 225's on it currently. I'm curious what you're basing this statement on. Looking at the GW web site and checking out the performance of various boats, I've been very surprised at how little difference there is...

    2000 Johnson starter problems

I'm still struggling to start at the most basic point. Recently, the left signal light on the boat trailer wasn't working. Figured a bulb was blown and when I took the lens apart, I found that it was a sealed unit - had to buy the whole light. Cheapest replacement was 12-something plus...

    2000 Johnson starter problems

Thanks, SFC. I suspected grounds were the problem yesterday when the guages jumped around but didn't look all that closely. This morning after reading your message, I started at the engine taking apart and cleaning the ground wires. When I got into the starboard side battery area where...

    2000 Johnson starter problems

We're having a bit of a heat wave here and I'm dieing to take the boat out. When I attempted to start her yesterday afternoon, the starter motor turned over very slowly, the volt meter on the instrument panel went from about 13 volts to about 8, the fuel guage went from empty (off) to full...

My 97 GW 208 Question about the Boat

Acccording to the GW web site, they don't use fiberglass tanks. Here the Q&A where they say it. See the last paragraph. Gary 89 Overnighter Can I use 10% Ethanol Fuel in my Grady-White boat? Recently there has been a great deal of interest in E10 Ethanol fuel or RFG...

    Disc Brake conversion

I converted my trailer last spring to Kodiak disk brakes from Eastern Marine. It's actually a very easy job and Eastern is a pleasure to deal with. Gary 89 Overnighter

Water entering cabin when it rains

I have an 89 Overnighter and have had water getting into the cabin, too. I first noticed that it was wet under the cushions and since my boat sits on a lift with the bow pretty high, it was obvious that the leak was at the bow. I assumed the source was the line hole in the anchor locker cover...

    Trailering a 225

Be careful of these gunnel straps - they have a tendency at speed to vibrate/flutter and mar the sides of your boat. It took me quite a while to buff thses out. I've acquired some thick carpet pieces to put under the straps to prevent this in the future. Gary 89 Overnighter

    I like Teak

At some point you'll have to give us the technical details, like how you attached the deck teak to the deck, what finish you put on the raw teak, etc. The more I look at your pics, the more I like what you did. Gary 89 Overnighter

    Shipping a Grady

Pete, Please just have the bearing and races replaced. It is super cheap insurance and also something your neighbor will hug you for. This is now on my "must do" list before towing any loaded trailer any significant distance. Most boat shops will do it and many RV places will do it. I was...

Anyone install an Intermittent Windshield Wiper switch?

NEM - I've pondered the same thing on my boat, especially on those windy days when I take spray on the windshield. There are a many kits available, like this one from jc whitney - http://www.jcwhitney.com/Electric_Winds ... 004481;0;0 and prices are all over the place. Choosing where...

    Shipping a Grady

Pete1313 - I learned a valuable lesson about boat trailers, more specifically wheel bearings, when I trailered my boat home from NJ. Three of the four wheel bearings failed so badly that the repair tech was able to remove the tire, brake drum and all, just by jacking the axle up. He said that...
