    Anchor windlass speed

Dennis, the finger spring looks good, batteries (3) are brand new this summer, engines in neutral and running at 1000 rpm. I'm guessing 62'/min is a no load speed especially for what appears to be a lower priced model. We hover over the anchor, the rode or chain is straight down.

    Anchor windlass speed

On my 2003 Sailfish the windlass is a Horizon 500, I don't know if it's the original windlass but I'm not thrilled with it. One of the reasons is that it supposedly can raise the anchor at the rate of 62' a minute and whereas I haven't measured, I'd be willing to bet it's far short. The other...

    Livewell pump popped a breaker

It has one of those bronze screens on the hull and it was clean. It's possible, since I vaguely remember bits of kelp wandering by, that the pump may have sucked a piece onto the screen for a few minutes. In Southern California we have these giant kelp forests and they deteriorate during the...

Didn't think of that! Thanks, I'll check.

    Livewell pump popped a breaker

On a trip to Catalina this weekend, about an hour after we stopped to stock up on Sardines, the livewell pump popped a breaker. I didn't notice anything at the time until we looked in the livewell and saw the water level was about two inches too low and the bait was lethargic. I turned the...

    Removing the bottom paint

When I purchased my 282 Sailfish last year, bottom paint had already been applied. As I store the boat on a trailer, I don't need it. Recently I noticed there were a couple of small areas where the bottom paint had flaked off, and to my surprise there wasn't any gel coat underneath. It looks...

Fuel Gauges Not Working Properly--Manual Calculation Method?

Glacierbaze, do you have a manufacturer / model? My Sailfish is a 2003 so it was pre-NMEA but I have a modern Garmin chartplotter and could run the necessary wires. Thanks.

2006 360 Express Flood Light Conversion to LED Suggestions

WreckDiver, I don't know if you're referring to the Halogen spotlight or a cockpit light, I think it's the latter, I bought these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008D3HRIO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They're Lumitec, a bit steep but the quality is there and you won't be...

    Accuracy of Yamaha gauges

Ky Grady, Found them, I didn't realize they were a Yamaha part. Ok, there's an electrical connector on the part, where does that connect? As I have a 2003 I don't have the benefit of NMEA to the engines.

    Accuracy of Yamaha gauges

When we filled up a couple of weeks before the tanks were full and the Yamaha gauge showed full for both. Waiting for fuel prices to drop, everything is over $4/gal...

    Accuracy of Yamaha gauges

I don't believe so, this sounds like a great idea. My blue Yamaha canister filter is under the aft cockpit seat about 1-2 feet away from the fuel valves - can you recommend a brand, do I need one or two? Thanks.

    Accuracy of Yamaha gauges

On my 2003 Sailfish the Yamaha gauge displays the fuel level of either fuel tank, depending on which tank is selected. It's a vertical LED bar with segments. I was at Catalina over the weekend and the aft tank showed 1/4 full yet there wasn't enough fuel to keep the engines running; the main...

    Yamaha repower questions

Louis, I received this reply directly from Grady White re: when did GW beef up their boats to handle the heavier four-strokes: Looks like your lucky day! With regards to question 2, the Yamaha 225 four stroke is quieter, has far less fumes, provides greater mileage and is more powerful.

    Station keeping / trolling?

Never used a trolling motor, my concern would be if the weight of the boat is too much for the shaft, e.g. do you run the risk of bending the shaft? Another option would be to use a sea anchor - the drogue chute thing.

New boat contract signed and check is in the mail.

Russ, congratulations, I know you looked long and hard, it sounds like a great boat. I think I know the guy with the Sailfish, especially if it has 200's, he's a good owner.

    Low voltage warnings

All, the low voltage alarm occurred before when raising the anchor, one of the three original batteries (I think it was the house) was 8.5 volts at rest so that's why I replaced all three. I bought the boat a year ago in April, the Garmin was installed shortly thereafter. In another thread I...
