Old Gauges changeout and NMEA 2000

If you have Garmin GPSxxxx mfd it has a J1939 port for Yamaha engine data. Looks like an N2K port but it can "understand" more engine data (error codes) the N2k will not. If you don't have Garmin, N2k will display rpm, fuel burn, fuel tank level, temp, possibly F/N/R? I don't have Yamaha so I...

Helm Electronics Update - Garmin Chartplotter and Ideas

I have rockers. My panel is on a horizontal surface not vertical. I was thinking push button would be an improvement because you can't accidentally turn something on without knowing... Rockers are too easy to flip...

Helm Electronics Update - Garmin Chartplotter and Ideas

Just make sure its not a steering cylinder or helm problem. Any leak from side to side inside the cylinder will mess with the AP. Also can cause a problem with AP during setup. If your stowed motors fall over, even after weeks, you need a new cylinder. Garmin Reactor40 with Smartpump v2 works...

Helm Electronics Update - Garmin Chartplotter and Ideas

Obviously the simplest is to leave the top part alone (maybe just replace the switch covers). Two 8612s would look awesome if the money is not a problem. They would fit right across the bottom. Move the AP display possibly down near the key switch or steering wheel. Its not something you...

    NMEA 2000 Network Issue

Possibly you need a NMEA2k Isolation power connection or you have the Garmin on the wrong side of the one you have. The isolator allows the Zuke side to get power from key (so gauges are NOT powered when the key is off) and then you have another power connection on the other side for everything...

Transducer stern block 2014 Freedom 285

the B75 has water temp! You get speed from GPS, you don't need a paddle wheel. Thats old technology. The old B744 had a paddle wheel that could be pulled out from inside the boat(to clean it). It came with a "blanking" plug that could be used to fill the hole. It had a flap valve to slow the...

Transducer stern block 2014 Freedom 285

Not sure what you mean by "Boat yard notice the existing block on the bottom, stern, was a little loose and leaking into rear bilge flowing to the bow. " " Transducer Block" generally refers to an exterior mounting block glued to the outside of the transom. Do you mean the transducer itself...

    Wiring/Fuse Question - 2018 Freedom 235

By control, you mean the switches? Power to dash switches/breakers is daisy chained so its possible that you have a loose connection on the switches.

Transom rebuild from inside or outside?

So long as your transom is completely flat across, you can do it from outside. It seems all Gradys are flat. Leaving at least 4 inches all around. Never cut to the corners/bottom or you are screwed. It is MUCH easier from the outside. Some boats have angles in the transom. You can't just cut...

Raising helm chairs on 306 Canyon

Yep just a simple spacer. You could go crazy and glass some plywood and match gelcoat. or you could just space it with 2x4s and trim the 4 edges with PVC board. The pix helped. I was assuming you had a pedestal. Arrigoni makes a pedestal extension. I raised mine 6" so I'm not looking at...

    326 electronics advice

For bottom fishing the best choice is GT51M-TH (thru hull) This is a two channel, all in one Traditional and Side vu. If you can, mount a single TH on the centerline near the transom without a fairing. This is my primary transducer and it works great at speed for everything. You could live...

Flush mount Through hull transducer issues on a 270 Islander

but I was worried about hitting debris or a log and causing more damage This is not a thing... Thats a big hole to fill...Leave it where it is. Use it trolling and drifting. Assuming you have two inputs on your sonar...Get a thru hull with a 50/200khz. (B265LH) Put it centerline about...

    Windlass power

What size wire was on the breaker? Where did that wire come from? What size wire was on the up/down switch? What size wire connects to the wires of the winch? My Grady had factory 10 awg marked "windlass" up in the anchor locker...not connected...no windlass. I would hope that Grady didn't run...
