Swapping gauges may fix any bad connection in the port tach, so if they both work, just go with it.

Looks like you only have about an inch on each side of the pie plate now, so a larger hatch is a questionable option

Before you put anything on the threads, clean up the old ones, and see how many turns you can get by hand. There is often a mix of straight and tapered threads in this particular connection, and you end up with a shallow, weak connection.
