    Repower for 226 - anyone running a 200 hp?

I have a 228 Seafarer that has the original SW series 200hp 2-stroke. I spoke with my local dealer and he suggested getting a yamaha 250 4-stroke over the 200 4 cyl. I did some digging and found the Merc 250 is the lightest and is only 527 lbs and it's a v-8. The Yamaha and Suzy's are 588 lbs...

    Seafarer Re-power options

How do the scuppers fair with the additional weight? I was thinking this would be a problem of flooding out the floor. I too was looking to repower from my SW200 to an F250 but the weight was a concern unless you could get more buoyancy out of the bracket. My other motor I was considering was...

Not That Anyone Asked: My 226 Seafarer 1-Year Review

Mustang, I have the narrow bracket on my boat not the full width swim platform bracket. I am considering repowering mine soon and am concerned of the additional weight of a new 4 stroke Yamaha will cause the scuppers to flood out the deck. I would think the swim platform bracket may contribute...

Not That Anyone Asked: My 226 Seafarer 1-Year Review

I have the 228 model and find the bracket keeps a lot of the engine noise out of the boat. Mine is a 1998 with the original Yamaha 200hp SW Series 2 stroke. Pretty much the whole boat is still original aside from replacing bilge pumps and bow lights. I do find the dash to be a total pain to see...

    fixing chipped gelcoat

I have a number of chips on my '98 Seafarer 228. Obviously the color have faded a bit since new but was wondering what was the best filler everyone like to use ? I have tried Marine Tex on a few spots, it works fine but color is off a bit.

Grady hit by whale in Rhode Island

I have had numerous close encounters from whales and basking sharks. not sure why but they seem to be curious about my drift sock. Little unnerving in my Seafarer 228 when they are 4' from the motor on the bracket.

Medium/Giant Tuna fishing from a 272 New England

Fish for them all the time in my 228. I do however, target the smaller tunas. had a 100" fish on last year and it was a frigging rodeo. Ended up breaking my rod. Luckily no one was hurt and we managed to get the fish boatside in a fairly short amount of time to release it. I have a Rec permit...

    repower

You are correct, I was talking about the 250hp Yamaha 6-cyl 4 stroke. The Merc 200 is a 6 cyl now and was 75 lbs heavier than my 2 stroke. The Merc has 221 output HP btw. I am strongly leaning towards the Merc vs spending 4-5K more for a 250 Yamaha.

    repower

I priced a Merc 200hp 4-stroke 6 cyl. this spring at my local shop. They were around $17.5 installed with controls and analog gages. Also a Yamaha 200hp 4-stroke 4-cyl came in at 17K using my old controls and 19K with new controls and gages. I started to think about the load on a 4cyl ...
