what model year Freedom 285 & other questions

Wow, a $300k Grady White 285 for your first boat? Not to rain on your parade but I’d really suggest starting smaller and working your way up. That’s a lot of boat for your first one. Try a 225, awesome boats and same layout. Handles very easy, less systems to maintain, etc. But whatever you...

    WTB: GW 225 Tournament

Like the title says, looking for a well-cared for Tournament 225. I’m not interested in something that has been beaten to hell and back. Vintage 1998-2006 or so. Yamaha 2 stroke OX-66 is ok. Trailer is preferred. New England, New York, New Jersey region. Text, call seven seven four eight...

    Water in Fuel

Great info Hookup, thank you. Trouble is, I can’t get the engine to run more than a few seconds before it dies out. Initially it ran about 20 minutes then died. Then as I tried to restart it would run three or four seconds and cut out again.

    Water in Fuel

Hi Dennis, I appreciate the reply. The boat is a ‘98 so it’s possible the tank is junk and water is easily getting in. I’m not sure how he drew the water from the fuel tank, I believe it was a hand pump with siphon hose in the tank maybe? The boat has two tanks, a Mai tank of about 95...

    Water in Fuel

Thanks for the reply. I should have included that, it’s a 1998, with a Yammie OX66 225hp It may come to that, finding a new mechanic. But I sure don’t want to do that. He’s been good to me and always makes room for me when I need him. But we will see how things go.

    Water in Fuel

Hi Guys, I have a GW Tournament 225 that I’ve owned since 2015. Last April, on the shakedown cruise, I broke down and got towed in. Mechanic got the boat and told me it was water in my fuel, like a lot of water. He asked me if I may have mistakenly put water in the fuel fill thinking it was...

    225 Tournament/Freedom Questions

Hi CBH, I have a ‘98 Tournament 225, I’ve had it for five seasons now. Before this boat, I had a SeaCraft 23, 28’ Seaworthy downeaster and a 20’ Jones Brothers Cape Fisherman. This is the least fishy boat I’ve owned. Having said that, it perfectly fits my needs right now with a wife and a nine...

Looking To Move To Cape Cod

Hi Langski! Your 208 (nice boat!) will be fine in the Sound, just get out early as it always gets breezy mid-day. With a favorable forecast you can easily do the Vineyard! And if it does get breezy, you’ll be running with it so it won’t be all that bad. Fog can be an issue too on those humid...

Looking To Move To Cape Cod

I was born and raised on Cape Cod and aside from 4 years in the Army, I’ve lived here my whole life, 49 years. I work as a patrolman for a local police department for 26 years now. Each region of the Cape has a unique feel, just like New Hampshire does and every visitor or resident has their...

Replacing bilge pumps in a Tournament 225G

Thank you Lee for the walk through, doesn’t sound that bad. I bet it’s a long reach down to the bottom. Now, I wonder if there’s anything else I can/should do while I’m in there.....

Replacing bilge pumps in a Tournament 225G

I should be able to do that, issue really is getting to it. Looks like I’ll have to pull the livewell, sounds like a pain in the ass.

Replacing bilge pumps in a Tournament 225G

I have a ‘98 Tournament 225G and I’d like to replace the bilge pumps as I have owned the boat 5 years and know they are at least that old. They’re sitting in the belly of the bilge and with the aft seating/live well assembly, and them being directly under the live we’ll itself, I fear getting...
