    Repower Recomendations for 1999 Tournament 225 replacement for E-tec 225hp 2008

I repowered my 228 from a 200 HPDI to a 250 Mercury. Two seasons on it now and I have loved it. Was lightest of the bunch and is a V8.

    2001 repower

Repowered my 228 last Spring with a Mercury 250; it was the one I could get the quickest and the lightest. Could not be happier; V8 has tons of torque and is so quiet. Put 100 hours on it my first Summer here on the Pacific in Oregon.

Also to consider is how far you have to tow the boat and under which conditions. I have about a two hour drive to the coast and it is hilly and curvy. I had a Tundra and it pulled my Seafarer fine, but it was the cornering and stopping quickly that was concerning to me. At times it felt like...

    Inside Passage

There are no fish at Bremner, I wouldn't waste the 1 or 1.5 hour trip out there from Port Hardy. ;) In all seriousness, I would take three jerry cans of gas in my Arima (28 gallon main tank) so I could make that trip as much as possible. I have had higher numbers at Suttel and around the...

    Inside Passage

Went to Port Hardy 11 years in a row in my 17' Arima. Love Pine Island, but I like Bremner and Cape Suttel even better. Darn Covid has kept me out of Canada and Port Hardy for two year, but I am hoping to be back again this summer. Not ready to make the trip all the way up, but I can see the...

    Fuel tank alteration

I'm following this thread with interest in regards to my '96 228. I pulled off the hatch covers today and did not see corrosion on the top, nor could I smell any gas. Don't know if I will get to it this winter but it is something I believe I will need to keep an eye on. I do not have an...

Bimini Top and All Curtains from a 1996 Seafarer

Going to revive this old thread. I love my custom hardtop, and would like to get this out of my garage. Any reasonable offer considered! Best to PM me if you have questions.

    The Walk Around Cuddy R.I.P.

Hey the top one is my boat! Joe did an awesome job! As a tall guy, I absolutely love the taller cabin and windshield.

    228 Repower

So, to my decision ... I am going with the Mercury. Mercury lists at 527 pounds, Yamaha at 550, and Suzuki at 608. I realize that they all probably list their lightest, short shaft motor, but my assumption is that Mercury is still the lightest of the three. Mercury dealer is the closest to...

    228 Repower

I'm already pushing it with a repower cost wise, and going to fly by wire adds a pretty considerable amount to the total. So, think I am going to stick with mechanical. Right now, I think I have it narrowed down to Yamaha and Mercury, with the Merc in the lead by a little. V8 with less...

    228 Repower

I have also been a fairly biased Yamaha owner (I've had 3 of them), but my brother has had a Mercury 115 (got it new) for the last three years and he loves it. I've driven the boat and it is really nice. Can't say the same for his Mercury kicker, I hate the throttle shift thing. Mercury...

    228 Repower

First season with my 1996 Seafarer 228, and I am a little underwhelmed with my 200 HPDI Yamaha, so I'm thinking of a repower. I know my transom is sound because I had to redo that. I also have a T8 kicker hanging on the back, so weight is a concern for me. I am looking at 250 HP Yamaha...

Bimini Top and All Curtains from a 1996 Seafarer

I bought this boat in FL this October and brought it out to Oregon where I am having a hard top made. The curtains are like brand new and I don't think the previous owner ever put them on. I have all of the curtains, the front, sides, and back curtain and a carrying bag. The bimini top...

    Tell us about your boat/build

Man, I sure missed going to Port Hardy this summer; I had gone for 11 years in a row until this darn Covid thing kept us Yanks out of Canada. Hope things get straightened out by July! Boat will be stored in my brother's barn from November through April and I will moor it in Newport from...

    Tell us about your boat/build

I'll play. Grew up around boats as my dad was a fisherman, but didn't get in to owning my own boat until about 17 years ago. Started out with a couple of jet sleds because I thought that would be cool to be able to run up the rivers here in Oregon. Enjoyed those boats, but longed for...

    Question on Gimbal Mounts

I run my downriggers off to the side of the boat and then run a couple of rods shallow straight out the back in the prop wash. Some days the back rods hardly get bit and sometimes they are MONEY! Fish mostly for salmon in Oregon and Vancouver Island. I will sometimes stack on the...
