To E-TEC or NOT E-TEC that is the question

I'll contribute to the horse whipping, see: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18523 for the most recent abuse. I re-powered with a 2006 250hp E-TEC two years ago when my '94 Johnson gave up. I haven't put a lot of hours on it yet, but I love it so far and have some friends down south that run theirs harder...

    what truck to buy?

Man I'm 0-for-2. I re-powered with an E-Tec and was told that's the worst decision ever (see the THT-like other post) and I have a Dodge diesel truck. I like the E-Tec and love the truck. Curious as to why everyone rants against the trans? While I agree it's no Allison I have yet to have a...

    Anyone running E-tec

Okay, that settles it - I'm selling my boat that I just re-powered with the E-TEC. What a dummy - despite the fact that it seems to have been a good fit for my old boat that ALREADY HAD A 2S ON IT. Oh wait, can't do that because it has zero re-sale value because it has an E-TEC on it. Now...

    228G Seafarer

My '94 is exactly as you describe. Like the other posters will tell you, I've never had an issue with drainage - but I do wish the LCG was a little farther fwd. Mine is as bow light as it gets - no hardtop, fwd aux tank, or bow pulput, etc.

    Anyone running E-tec

Re-powered with a 2006 250hp E-Tec last year when my '94 Johnson gave up. I haven't put a lot of hours on it yet, but I love it so far. Have some friends that run theirs harder with no complaints. One cool feature - depending on where you're located - is the ability to have the motor run its...

what h.p.2 repower seafarer outboard on bracket

I found a used 250HP E-Tec when my old '94 Johnson blew up. No regrets at all.

    really need guidance

I was in a similar situation with my 228 this time last year. I spent months searching and eventually found a used 250hp E-Tec with 250 hrs on it for less than $8K incl new controls, etc. Still alot of money but as others have stated anything less than 225hp is a waste. Patience.

    228 repower or new admiral

I re-powered my '94 with a '06 250 E-Tec. The shop that put it on gave me $500 for my old Johnson - for parts.

USCG Throw Ring - Good Info

Spun the old OEM prop hub and couldn't pull the boat to change it. Loading the tools and parts into the bucket saved plenty of ins and outs of the water - the crew of me, myself and I wasn't very helpful. No big deal - just thought I had a good idea for once and would pass it on - with some...

USCG Throw Ring - Good Info

I know not all boats are required to carry a throw ring, but they can be handy even if you (hopefully) never need them for their intended purpose. Turns out they are just the ticket for holding a Home Depot 5 gal bucket full of parts and tools floating handy should you ever need to change a...

    Towing a 228G

I have one of those overkill Dodge 2500 diesels - you won't be disappointed - it gets over 20mpg on the highway, 17+ around town and 18+ mpg pulling the boat. Only down side is diesel prices are higher than gas these days in most parts of the country.

    Engine Paint

Yep - I've been in the water twice this year to scrape barnacles. There are some reports on another forum that the Trilux 33 (brush on) holds up fairly well. Bought a quart today (for a smooth $80). I'll update in a month.

    Engine Paint

Like others, the leading edge of my motor sits in the water when fully tilted fwd. Hauled it for the storm and thought it would be a good time to try out an anti-fouling paint - locally only. Anyone tried this?

Replacing lever for live well/Saltwater wash on Seafarer

Replaced mine in my 228G a couple of years ago. Ordered a new one from the dealer for about $45. I believe you can get them now from online parts places like "defender", etc. Anyway, changing it out takes about 10 minutes. Getting to it, i.e., with the hidden nuts on the fasteners to remove...

    Core repair ?s

Skip the wood and go with closed-cell foam. You can order it from places like jamestowndistributors. Where are you located - I may have some laying around the shop depending on thickness - or you can plane it down if you have the tools. Don't worry about getting a good overlaminate for...

    228 Seafarer Shade Ideas

I have a separate canvas top that mounts to two standard bimini pins/threaded mounts on top of each gunnel. It came with the boat when I bought it a few years ago - never actually used it - so I don't have any pics other than it sitting in my garage. And thanks for the jab - it's 25deg outside...

    Seafarer 228

Mine is mounted inside the fuse panel - I totally re-wired that area - to be close to the shore power outlet on the STBD side panel.

Johnson 225 Question / Help Please

The non-tech description is: Since I've owned the boat for 4 yrs it has always been fairly rough at idle (spits after 2-3 minutes of idle), died occasionally when at low rpm leaving / returning dock and really couldn't get full WOT rpm above 4500. Have always attributed it to "lack of use" -...

What length shaft is needed for a Kicker Motor on 228 Grady

A basic long shaft will work with a single sided swim platform. I just removed a Model year 2000 9.9Hp Evinrude 4-Stroke from by 228 - didn't use it. It's sitting in my garage, incl bracket and controls. PM me if you're interested.
