Why does my 228 have 3 pick up thru-hulls?

I'm thinking of a model year......... Look up archived brochures for Grady White ( for your year). It may list options

    Autopilot and SeaStar question(s)

If you say you have already bleed the system and did it correctly(:)) I would then disable the autopilot and see if the skipping (slipping) still occurs. You can also try turning the wheel with the boat at the dock to see if it slips. The slipping can be an air pocket or leaky dirty check...

    Flush Plug 0-Ring

As mentioned by Hookup, go to Home Depot or the like. It helps to bring the fitting or better yet the old o-ring. If you have twin motors, take the o-ring from the second motor to size the new one if the old one is lost. While there, pick up a small tube of plumbers grease. It helps to apply a...

    Flush Plug 0-Ring

What flush plug? If you mean the fresh water flush connection for the outboard, the connector is garden hose size, nothing special

    Butt crack question

The seats for the adventure are somewhat narrow and can be a challenge to find options that fit in normal position and also are able to rotate 180 around as the original seats can. In your case, new seat cushions may help but you would have to have them custom made. The original cushions are no...

First time Grady White owner - Seafarer 228.

Fir dual axel trailers, 5% is the appropriate starting point. I agree that your current placement of the boat is too far forward. It is common for the aft end of the hull to sit past the ends of the bunks. You bunks are sitting past the transom. The bunks should not run under trim tabs if...

question about varying twin engine trim and boat list

Trimming an engine up changes the direction of the thrust and points it downward relative to the hull bottom. In theory that causes the stern of the boat to lift up. So in theory changing the trim angle of an outboard will cause the hull to tilt. In reality the force of the thrust has less...

Rusty leak from gunwale in Freedom 235

The three holes on the lower edge of the gunnel is where the screw that holds the bolster in place is screwed in. Normally the screw is inserted into one of the grommets in the bottom area of the bolster into the gunnel. It seems that the bolsters may have been reinstalled a few times, hence the...

    ? on wiper

The old style 'saddle' mount blades are more difficult to find especially OEM Anchor. Saddle mount is the type that attaches to the arm using a thin bolt and nylock little nut. If you current blade is a hook style or a pin style, you have a lot of options. but note that automobile replacement...

    Grady 340 Express Announced

Seakeeper has announced kits for filling in trim tab pockets on some boats. I believe a few Grady model are available or will be soon.. The kits include molded filler parts to enclose the trim pocket. That's kind of cool and make the refit a lot simpler. I found this link...

Need input on bottom paint please.

If you don't have any blisters after 34 years of service, you don't really need a barrier coat. If you do have blisters, you have to fix them before the barrier coat. It can be a involved job. So, assume no blisters. I recommend a primer coat and then anti-fouling coat. Select the primer and...

Anyone tried, or heard of, a sharrow prop on a 228?

The tests I have read concentrated on lower speed applications and displacement hulls. For recreational planing hulls, I haven't seem a lot of documented tests. When I see pictures of outboards raised up and propped with sharrows what comes to mind in the back of my head is 'steal me!'

    Tilt trim unit removal

When you take the rams apart, note what direction the ram seals face if they have a v shaped groove on one side. Some years do and some don't.

Sea Keeper Sea Ride Anyone have it?

The boat is wet slipped and I had to haul it on a trailer to clean the actuators. Fortunately at my club, we have a ramp. Most of the assembly is composite fiberglass. SK states not to paint the metal parts that make up the blade and blade edge. The rest of the assembly should be anti fouled. I...

    One battery bank not charging

In your photo you show a green wire connected to one of the negative battery terminals. Where does that wire go? I ask because typically green wires are earth grounds and i don't think that earth ground should be connected to your batteries That ECLI breaker is both ground fault protection...

Sea Keeper Sea Ride Anyone have it?

I have the 450s on my other boat. I don't have a lot of experience but they do significantly improve the ride . My hull is 26 ft and the weight of everything is about 7200 lbs. I did and may still do have an issue with barnacles. I just redid the treatment with different primers and antifouling...

Anyone tried, or heard of, a sharrow prop on a 228?

If you have a displacement hull, what difference does it make if the article refers to getting on plane at lower revs?
