In my Driveway - 258 Finally Arrives

Congrats Seadog. I know about all the pain associated with bringing a Grady into Oz. I did so with a 228. Trust me, its all worth it! We generally get 1 or 2 people an outing commenting on the beauty of our boat! Best of luck with her. Jekyl on this forum has one up in Townsville I...

How much fuel should I be using?

Thanks for the responses guys. 100NM is about 115 miles. 3.5MPG should equate to around 33 gallons. I used around 50 gallons. Given all the stop starting, trolling and maintaining speed limits (4, 6, 8 knots), an extra 17 gallons over that distance of travel is probably about right? I'm...

How much fuel should I be using?

Hello all, I have a 2001 228 Seafarer with hardtop and a 200HP HPDI on the back. Over four days last weekend I travelled around 100 nautical miles and used around 50 US gallons of fuel and a gallon of 2-stroke. Is this about right for people on this forum with 228's too? I know there...

Happy Australia Day to Aussie Grady owners

G'day Jekyl, My boat was out in Sydney Harbour for the day chasing down the ferries in that crazy race they have! Happy Aus day to all the Aussie Grady Owners. I'm thinking we should start up a club down here soon. There are a few down here now, including a fantastic 300 Marlin with twin...

    Wakeboarding / skiing off a 228 hardtop

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone's had experience with tying a wakeboard or ski rope to the hardtop of a 228? I just wonder if it's strong enough? Best to ask before trying! I understand that there are two lugs on the transom, but with wakeboarding, the higher the rope, the better. This...

GPS shuts down on starting outboard

Thanks guys - I've just been putting up with the nuisance, and becoming much better with my compass when re-setting the drift! I think I'll look at the power conditioner option. If I buy and install, I'll feedback to the forum.

    2001 228 in Sydney Australia

Thanks for the replies and well wishes - I'm extremely happy with the 228. We've had her in for a detail as she had a close call with a fire! Yikes!! Luckily there was no damage at all to our boat, but the ash from the blaze and rain made the deck a little grubby. Check out this footage and...

    2001 228 in Sydney Australia

Hi all, I'm an aussie, but worked in Charlotte, NC for about a year where I met and fell in love with the GW. This year I imported a second hand 2001 228 with hardtop and 200hp HPDI from NC and have been really enjoying it. It was really hard work importing the boat, lots of late nights...

A useful way of testing the water lank for leaks without having to taste anything is to use a food dye.

GPS shuts down on starting outboard

Howdy, My GPS (a Furuno 1650DF) switches off everytime I kickover the motor. Its quite a pain after a drift, especially when you want to go back to your waypoint. I'm currently blame this inconvenience for my lack of successful fishing! :) I have a 228 with twin batteries and a...

    Seafarer 228 - Livewell seacock

Thanks Rob. If I leave the well full (with the drain pipe in) and the seacock closed. The water stays in no probs - therfore I don't think it is a thread / standpipe issue. If I do the same with the seacock open, the water drains.

    Insulating livewll

I was thinking about this too. I can't see any harm in this, except that it may be quite difficult to re-install the tank after the insulation is fixed to the livewell shell. If this is the case, the minimal thickness of insulation we'd need to apply may make the project less worthwhile...

    Seafarer 228 - magazine / webzine reviews

Hello happy 228 owners, I've asked the God Google, but he's been unable to answer my prayers on finding a magazine or website review of a year 2000 or newer 228 / 226. If you have come across one, please let me know (only if its a good one of course! :P ) I have scanned the reviews on...

    Seafarer 228 - Livewell seacock

Looking at the plumbing diagram (pg 6-19 in the 2001 use manual), there does appear to be a check valve between the inlet on the tank and the seacock. Looks like I may need a new one of those. Thanks for your help Strikezone, much appreciated.
