    Shaft length for a 1995 26.8 Islander

I have a 1996 Islander and repowered in 2011 with F300. Big difference in performance from the 250. Put the Saltwater series prop, 15 3/4", 15 pitch prop. That is the ticket for my boat.

    Transom moisture

After I repowered my 1996 Islander with 4 strokes and my transom was actually bowing outward, I knew a rebuild was in order. GW has a thick piece of aluminum angle that runs the entire length of the transom that is enclosed within. Do some research and find a good shop to look at your transom...

Re-power or sell and buy newer used?

Well, I have a 1996 Islander which meets all of my needs. Repowered in 2011 with a Yam 300. Rebuilt the transom in 2016 and know every inch of that boat. Made other mods through the years of which I now consider it to be perfect for me and family. So, if your Adventure has a lot of short...

New Power on my 96 Islander

When I repowered in 2011, installed this jack plate. You can dial in for your best mpg with ease. Like all of us, trying to get the best possible fuel management. Absolutely no issues with the jack plate and have been in some very heavy seas with it. You can now get these for twin motor...

    Transom Bang Plate!

Nola, Used the company that at one time did the fiberglass repair work for the GW dealership in Kemah TX. This company broke ties because either GW or the Dealership would not pay invoices timely. I called GW and raised all kinds of hell about that aluminum angle plate on top of transom even...

New Power on my 96 Islander

I went with the Yamaha Saltwater series, 15 3/4" diameter with 15 pitch. That was the largest diameter wheel Yamaha had at the time.

    Using Electrical Outlets While Undereway

Only time your outlets will work is when you are hooked to shore power or if you install an inverter as mentioned. On my boats panel, microwave, water heater, electrical outlets, battery charger all have circuit breakers identified on the panel and only work when attached to shore power. These...

    Transom Bang Plate!

Rebuilt my transom in 2016 (268 islander -1996) and got rid of what you are calling the cheap aluminum bang plate. I called GW and they sent me a fab cap that is being used on later models that was used to cover the top of transom. Top of transom was glassed, then incorporated the cap on top of...

    Battery Relocation?

I moved my two house batteries forward next to my 32 gallon fresh water tank on my 268 Islander. Gave me a lot more room for my 2 crank batteries stern. I think anything you can do to move whatever weight forward is beneficial.

New Power on my 96 Islander

Same, I repowered with Yamaha 300, changed the pitch to a 15 which made big difference. Very happy with this setup but have thought about what a 4 blade would do for hole shot.

    Boat Trailers: Bunk vs Roller

I have had both also. Currently have rollers but would rather have bunks. Rollers require more maintenance in my opinion.

    Starboard Fishbox and Livewell Lids

Very nice, I have a 268 Islander and going to have address all my lids. That putty GW uses will eventually break down and gelcoat starts to crack.

Islander 268 live well/fish box plumbing

My 1996 Islander has the same layout as your picture. On my GW brochure they are calling the port box a divided 104 qt and 38 qt insulated box, starboard box is a 186 qt fish box. The livewell on my boat is stern on port side and was aerated. I did not like it because it was way to small so I...

    265 mods

I did the same thing with the refrigerator space. Wanted to take the Microwave out also but was overruled by the wife. Thinking about purchasing an inverter and maybe put a new refrigerator back in.

    Videos

Your adventure brings back memories of the time I got my GW. Live close to East Bay (Galveston Bay) in Texas, found the Grady that I wanted in Connecticut, one boat owner. Had boat surveyed, made arrangement for local trailer company to go over the entire trailer, purchased extra wheel/hubs...

    Ball Scuppers

There is a large nut that holds the thru hole in place. I replaced mine with Gemlux and put the duckbill inserts which work great. You can contact Gemlux and provide them with the size of your present thru hole to see if their duckbill will work, if not, you need to purchase their thru hole and...

    Hello Texans

Deck drain hose & thru hull replacement

My attached picture shows the starboard access area. Note: Cut these access holes on both starboard and port to not only help me get to the thru holes but also for better access to stringers so I could tie back to those when transom was rebuilt. I thought a long time about doing this but in the...

Deck drain hose & thru hull replacement

I have a 1996 Islander and had the same issue about access. Instead of on top, I put the access on vertical portion which put me closer to the hose connections. Also, got rid of those little Grady scuppers and replaced with Gemlux which are larger and the top can be removed for easy cleanout if...

    Hello Texans

Howdy fellow GreatGrady members in the great state of Texas, I think most GW owners down here are active on THT. This is a great place for GW questions and answers but we are not as active as the Northeast owners. I have a 268 islander (1996) which I have really enjoyed. Replaced the transom...
