I have a 2001 Grady 265 with twin Yamaha 2001 HPDI 200’s. Motors have approximately 1800 hours on both. Blew up a questionable, used Port LU last month. I’m waiting patiently for the only available OEM Yamaha HPDI LU in Japan. I have a spare LU that I resealed, but nicked the prop shaft removing the prop seals. Honed down the prop shaft burr, but not feeling confident the prop seals will last long. A brand new OEM Lower Unit for $1200 will give me more confidence running outside the SF Golden Gate.
Also, hope I didn’t freeze up the powerhead when the LU started breaking apart. The Port motor hesitated and died, then limped home on STB motor. I haven’t started it up since the LU failure.
So, if the Port motor is dead, I’m thinking about a potential repower, if I cannot find a used HPDI- LZ200TXRZ.
What’s involved in a 2001 Grady 265 repower with twin 200HP 4-stroke motors?
1. Remove 2 stroke oil tanks?
2. Repair corroded transom aluminum cap or fiberglass cap over transom?
3. Need to raise drain scuppers for 200HP motors?
4. Suzuki vs Yamaha?
5. Digital vs mechanical?
6. Try to find used 4- stroke 200HP motors and bolt on?
Any suggestions or advice greatly appreciated!
Frank
