2010 Yamaha 250HP paint chipped

I am looking at a 2010 Seafarer and the paint on the back of the Yamaha 250HP is chipping. When you touch it, it feels like a ton of salt has eaten away at the paint. The boat is very clean otherwise. Any idea why this would be happening, is it anything to be concerned about, and, can it be touched up?

Pretty common from sun damage. i’ve heard of some shops that will refinish them. you’d probably have to do the cowl as well to get a good paint match.

Is the hood a replacement hood?

Sure, anything can be painted. It's all about the prep work and using the right products (especially the primer), though.

Looks like harness damage and either the cowl was repaired or replaced. Body shop knock that out quick - marine repair shop, not so much…

To me, it looks more like the damage was caused by a foreing material (rope?) rubbing the paint off. For example, a line tied from the stbd stern, going port-wise across the back. And that caused really bad damage to the hood, requiring replacement. In the end, the cause is a moot point - but it's a curious/abnormal pattern.
