265 Backrest modification

I have a 2000 Express 265 and wanted to know if anyone has modified their older model express to the updated backrests like the newer 2005 and up have? You know the ones I am talking about on the side bench seats? Is it possible?

I've been trying to determine if there's a way to bolt something, like a padded aluminum arm, onto the hardtop structure that would help keep passengers on the benches.
