Three strand will do fine.

I use double braid for fenders as the 3 strand can un-twist if a fender is left deployed with the vessel underway. Instead of loops you could consider something like a cam or v-cleat; infinitely adjustable and they’re plenty strong.

Agree that 3-strand is nice as it splices easily. Don’t really like the look of knots in double braid but I got tired of the 3-strand untwisting when someone forgets to haul in the fender.
