Adventure 208 steering

I may have misled you a bit. I have run cables on different boats and mat have confused the 208 with a Mako I once owned. On the 208 open the pie plate in the cabin on the wall behind the helm. That may be where you will see the rigging tubes. It sucks getting old:) Suffering from CRS!

The rigging tubes should be easily located if you have the rear deck up. Shouldn't need to take up the deck near the helm up. They appear to be pvc and run from the aft to the kick panel in the helm area starboard side.

The 208 does not have a rear deck lid. There are two pie plates in the motor well. You can see a bit especially with a mirror by looking from the rear lockers. The starboard side which is where the rigging tubes end also contains the batteries making access a bit difficult

Finally replacing cable steering with hydraulic. I removed the cable helm yesterday but steering wheel is stuck on the shaft. I tried penetrating fluid, tapping with a hammer. I don’t want to use a gear puller - worried it will damage thin stainless steel rim. Can’t grip something more substantial. Any suggestions?

Screw the nut down until about 1/4 inch space to hub or until nut is even with or slightly above the threaded shaft ( to avoid the hammer blows damaging the threads)
Pull up hard on the wheel. Some folks use a piece of 2x4 for leverage.
Give the nut a good wack on the nut.
Repeat if necessary. Do not try this without the nut on the shaft. If you do, you may end up at the dentist.
Note that if you are changing the steering box, you can wack pretty hard since damage to the box is not an issue
