The cap on my 2009 205 Tournament needs replacing and my from local Grady dealer/service provider quoted $2,200 to replace with vinyl and fiberglass. Is this reasonable?

I had my dealer replace the cap on a 2001 180 - that was $1200 and on my current 2006 222 - that was $1800

Seems a bit high, but then again, maybe they are estimating some repair or shooting high to deliver under budget?

Ask them to go over the quote with you.

It depends what the fibreglass job requires.
I used a stainless steel L-profile as new bang cap glued with 5200 on the top of the transom for a quick fix but will need to have a fibreglass job done this winter to replace the wet, swelling wood on the corners on both sides of the transom notch.
Then i will probably use a Vinyl bang cap over the new and reinforced transom top.

@OP, that is a reasonable price; I am in RI. HOWEVER, just ensure that your transom is not shot/wet underneath. I had to replace my transom on my 22 '94 Tournament and the culprit on all of our Gradys is the aluminum transom cap. The transom was manufactured as a solid one-piece of fiberglass....HOWEVER, the aluminum cap is secured by screws that were drilled into the solid transom, giving rise to water entry and ultimately the infamous transom rot. If removing and replacing, ensure they check with a moisture meter....replacing the cap and glassing in a new top will ensure more longevity.

Mine was 3,500 in 2022- This was removing twin engines and glassing over the applying the vinyl cap. I assume your boat is single engine, it sounds reasonable
