The best decks to have are solid decks - no seams, and a procedure from the vendor to cut the deck and restore it, when the time comes. Just like Parker.

The screw holes can be properly caulked, but the overflow tends to make the Admiral not like it, so it's hard for the vendor to keep excess caulk clear while getting it right, and teh Admiral happy. ME, I lke excess caulk, shows there is any at all in hole to begin with.

The holes in the deck need to be complete glass or cabosiled, to protect the wood core from a possible leak, and better seal the water from going futher down, Since the wood core when it wets will loose adhesion to the caulk further down, lets the water fly right by. Drill a hole in the roof of your house and locate a funnel in it, same effect.

And you should consider removing the deck screws every three years or so, to see if any have been violated, since the stringers and bulkheads are more valuable in cost and structural integrity than the deck coring, and way more expensive to replace.
