Fathers Day….Why good question…..I owned a 1997 24 ft GW Voyager for 14 years ..As I am not a Do it yourselfer all work had been done by local boat vendors…two years ago the local vendor said he would no longer service the 1997 ox 66 ..( he gave me 18 mo notice) I looked around for other shops, yards, no one was very interested. I spent five or six months researching and trying to figure out whether to repower and decided against. I finally found a one person shop who would service the engine. I launched the Voyager about this time last year and made two short harbor tours. The third time the ox 66 quit. I called the service guys and they said they would look at it but it might be a few weeks as they were very busy launching boats.. I suggested to my wife that we close the boating chapter in our life ( we are senior, senior citizens) She said “I don’t want to live by the water and not have access to it) I wasn’t totally surprised and said I knew I married the right person(we have been married over50 yrs) She said find another boat….Not being handy, and not wanting fix it problems, I started relooking at new boats…a new 23 Gulfstream was almost 200k , the 218 cuddly was about 150 and the freedom was around 125. In as much as the we slept on the boat maybe 7;times in fourteen years this was not a big consideration in purchasing…the Freedom was less money(but more than all the4 small used boats I had purchased before) and had quite a bit more useable space. We went with the Freedom 21 launched new last Jun15 and launched May 3rd this year. Love the boat so far and just trying to see if I could manage a “ sleepover” on her. Am I still odd ? PS… I think I found a bow boat tent on line that would work. The Admiral sayid yes!
