NJ fishing reports

Another early solo trip just 5 miles out of Manasquan inlet. Limit by 830.
This double was 10 and 11. I had to decide which one to throw back.

Another nice bag of fillets

We found a really good fluke bite at the rocks off Elberon & Long Branch in 40-50 ft.
Picked thru steady short fish for 6 nice keepers to 23"
Lost a lot of jigs and lead.

I am down in Sea Isle City and the bite has been pretty good but I am still jealous of you central and north Jersey guys. Send some of those doormats South for vacation.

Went back up to the green can at Shrewsbury rocks yesterday. We got 9 keepers between three of us. Thats a boat limit! That doesn't happen often since they upped the size to 18".
Again, lost a lot of jigs and lead...painful but worth it. You don't get a limit fishing in sand

Congrats and thanks, that's quite a haul. I'll be visiting this weekend and familiar with that area, but will try pressing closer to the rocks than usual. The Rattlesnake used to be the spot but for some reason it went dead a couple years ago. Any Stripers still around or Tunas on the lumps yet?

Fourth of July we had nice trip out 3.5 miles straight out of Manasquan Inlet to a fluke spot that I always try first We caught 4 keepers and lost zero rigs! Burned no gas. Love that spot when it pays off.

Saturday went long to a spot past triple wrecks 70 miles out of manasquan. Found some dolphins at about 8 am and threw poppers. Missed two nice yellowfin that cleared water smashing the poppers. Later hook two small bluefin. Boated one and "easy released" the other. Quit early while the wind was good. Caught our 3 seabass and some Ling at the Resor on the way in

I'm heading out for tuna in the morning. Any last minute suggestions for locations? I'm thnking Toms Canyon or Monster Ledge, but very different trips.

Florida Edition: Took a trip to Sebastian for red snapper season. We only managed to boat one during the two day season. My grand nephew got a nice one. I got sharked halfway up. Couple break offs. My brother got a nice red grouper. We boated half mahi. Lost a few more. Lost a big snook in the inlet. I jigged a big octopus that was tasty.

Which direction did you go and how did you make out?
Neither. Lightning and thunder was all around from 2:00 - 4:00am, with more in the early morning, so we cancelled. Heading out Saturday to the Triple Wrecks

Sounds like a great trip! That grilled octopus looks tasty!

I'm hearing that the Virginia has Yellowfin. Also, according to ch 65, somewhere close like Mud hole there are big bluefin stretching lines out.

Fished the Pt Pleasant Elk's Fluke tournament Saturday. Our best was 22", so no win for us.
Had a great time in not so great afternoon conditions. We got fish on Klondike rocks and at Sea Girt reef.
We also got our 4 seabass limit and there are some very nice one's still around!

In the center between the two front boats. Good looking! Was this an event of some kind? That's a lot of boats!

I had a nice strike on the troll at the Triple Wrecks on Saturday, but lost it after about 10 minutes - the big one that got away! It was pretty dead otherwise, no life and no reports of others with action. The Chicken and AP were quiet as well, didn't hear anything about the Toms. Thinking a little more inshore next trip, but we'll see.

Did you try the pots for Mahi?

Did not see any pots to try.
You come from BI so you don't cross them.
Go North from Princess into 180-200 ft and you will find miles of Glory pots to east and west
They have small flags. They are close together and its hard to decide which pot to go to next.
There is a slight gap and then they run NW in the Mudhole (west edge 160-180ft) all the way to Shark River reef

Chicken pots are spread far apart and have radar reflectors and large orange balls.

Ditch the side trackers when trolling for mahi. Small jet heads with strip baits. If you get a couple fish on a pot, haul everything in and chunk the pot with very small circle hooks and small spinning rods.
Bonita aka False albacore make great strips and chunk baits.

If you ever find pots to the south, please let me know.

ALWAYS mark pots and name them "Pot"!

Thanks for the picture! I'll try the Chicken and Glory pots in the future. Seeing your map, the strike I had on Saturday was when I was passing over The Hills.
