Is the back to back companion seat on a tournament 225 replaceable with a single swivel type captains chair? It looks like the whole seat assembly is a separate unit.

Once you remove the B-B, you can do whatever you want. But the mounting holes will be different.

No "cut up" - but you're going to need to fasten the seat base really good. Screwing it down isn't the best - it should be thru-bolted.

So, yeah, I would probably lean towards a backer plate rather than just the Togglers (although they are pretty darn good).
Here's one way to do this without having any visible holes
- Get a 3/16" or 1/4" aluminum plate that allows you to make a circle a bit larger than the seat base.
- Cut a hole in the deck about 4" or so, dead center on where the center of the base will be (which will then get covered up by the base.
- Cut the same size hole in the deck.
- Split the aluminum piece in half
- This allows you to slip each piece in through the hole and glue in place with 5200 fast cure. Use some small clamps if needed
- After about 3 days, you can come back and drill your holes for the Togglers
- Now you have the benefit of a true backer plate along with the ease of using a blind fastener like the Toggler
One more question. I’m trying to decide if the swim bracket is substantial enough to support a kicker motor. My concern is more trailering and bouncing down the road.
Or should the swim bracket be removed and a bolt on kicker bracket be added?
That's not too bad to start with. I'd probably add a support underneath the bracket for good measure, though.
How do you intend to use the kicker? Meaning, would it be sufficient to put the kicker in gear/throttle up and then use the main engine for steering (like a rudder) with the kicker locked straight?

Honestly I’m not sure yet. I have a friend with one who had the same issue with steering. He cobbled some together that looks like a cobble but it seems to work.
It'd be a moot point if you'll be using the main engine for steering.
But, yes. Whether a rear mount tie bar or front mount tie bar... if something off the shelf won't work, then cobble something. How "cobbley" it looks is up to you
