I have some flexing in my transom. I want to rebuild it. I also saw the stringers pulled off the transom. What is the best way to open it up? from the outside or from the inside? Do I cut off the back of the transom or do you cut the top off the back and rebuild from the inside.

Most I've seen are from the outside. The glass is cut around the outer edge of the transom and removed in a single piece. You'll have the wood core right there and easy to access at that point. There are a few vids on the net and on this site. Maybe search and get some ideas,

When mine was done back in '21, the repair shop cut the top off and removed everything from the inside leaving nothing but the gelcoat and glass in place. Then they cut the stringers back a bit and replaced everything with coosa board and glass. With everything exposed, it was a great time for me to replace all the deck drains, hoses and thru hulls. Be glad to provide some pics if you like.

Yes please provide some pictures. I also found my stringers pulling away form the transom.

My 1997 267 Islander has a "EuroTransom". The running surface of the hull stops 2' short of the engine mounting brackets. The extension functions like a bracket. The result is a narrow transom top-to-bottom. This makes for a narrow opening to work on the transom from the "outside".

I have been watching my transom for the last few years and plan to do it myself this summer. My plan is to cut the top of the boat and repair from "inside". I'm sure the stringers have separated from the transom and will need repair/replacement. I feel I'll be able to do a better job repairing the stringers this way.

I would like to see some pictures of the prep work they did for the transom and stringers. Also one of the cut they made to lift the top to expose the hull.
