She's home..she is finally freakin home....came home with a big bill from the dealer, but I should not have to talk to them again for a few years..I hope...now I need to get my act together and replace the thru hulls, hoses and fuel hoses.....should probably go all out and pull the tanks and inspect them and be done with everything for several years....

Great News...the yamaha dealer finished re-rigging the boat and tuning up the engines..she was brought home today before lunch time....

I had the fiberglass guy seal up the lower rigging hole, which was partially underwater due to the weight of the new engines..

CD..the fiberglass guys bill was $4720 (plus tax) which included replacing the deck drains, removing and reinstalling everything on the transom except the engines and sealing up the lower rigging tube. He took 10% off his price for the delays and did not charge me for the new cockpit drains that I asked him to install..plus he had the bottom of the boat scraped. The cost from the dealer to haul the boat back and forth, unrig/rerig the engines was about $1800...

That's one pretty behind you got there. :wow Gonna push you along nicely, and in style. 8)

Congratulations, and it sounds reasonable, too.

Are you going to finish your TODO list, or just get to fishing?

Was wondering how you made out with your transom repair ? I live in south Jersey and my Grady is now in need of a transom repair as well. I tried to call the number listed for the "Marine Specialists LLC" at that boat yard and it is disconnected ! I live only a few miles from there too.........Ed.

Very, very nice. A very fair price too. You will get many more years out of that boat. Thanks for all the pics as well. Thats the way to do a pourable transom with products like Nida-core. Had I not commited to using wood/epoxy in mine, I would have used this method for sure. Happy Boating! :nicethread

Had a pretty good restoartion day. Replaced the fish box drain thru hulls and livewell overflow. Had to seal up the hole from the sink drain..note to self..before cutting off old thru hull from the outside, check out where it is on the inside....I could not even come close to reaching the thru hull from the access hatch way up high.....I also removed the rear access hatch and exposed the filters, etc. Ugly in there..douched the hole with bleach and grease lightening and cut out most of the wooden shelf where the old oil tanks used to sit. With access to the bilge, sucked up about 1/2" of dirt and crap with the shop vac....ran into west marine and grabbed a new 3/4" thru hull while picking up dinner...after dinner, drilled a hole in the bottom for the new thru hull and insatlled the unit with screws/bolts and 5200. I can abandon the thru hull under the spalsh well, which I could not access well. I will seal that hartch and access hatch real good now. The new thru hull transducer will go in tomorow morning and then I can prep the bottom for paint....next weekend I will go after the fuel lines and uncover the fuel tanks.....,..wish me luck......

Chris, nice job on the thru hulls and stuff. I had to replace a few of mine and probably ran into the same problem you did. I could not find ones that had a the correct DIA thru the hull and also the same for the hoses. I could only find ones that were the next size smaller thu the hull but still fit the hoses. So I had to fill in around the fitting with GEL-PASTE to make it work. I opted for chromed bronze instead of the plastic. I spoke to SCOTT the other day about my transom and he was great. VERY knowledgable and gave me a lot of good advise. I'm now pretty sure I can salvage my transom by just GLASS sealing it for awhile instead doing a whole replacement. Of course I will monitor it closely and watch for other signs of problems..........Ed.

Ed,

Plastic was not my first choice, but the original marleon fittings had lasted 20 years and I had to cut them out, so they were still in OK shape. I wanted stainless steel, but I did not want to waste an entire day driving all over looking for a matching set...my transom was not salvageable..it was breaking and had broken further while I ran the boat last fall and I was very gentle with her....

Work has continued this week a little at a time. I cleaned the hull sides with on and off and finished removing the old name with rubbing compound...she is looking pretty good..I see a new coat of bottom paint in her future tomorrow..

Well the restoration work continues...after painting the boat on Saturday, I went after the main fuel tank yesterday..I am getting way too old for this stuff...hands hurt so much today I can barely type....

The main 93 gallon tank does not look too bad with some isolated spots of surface corrosion where the neoprene strips were touching the tank and where the wedges were in the sides....the bilge looks really good after I cleaned off the black stuff..what ever that was....the hoses were shot and the metal reinforcing inside was all rusted...I was able to tear the vent hose off ..did not even have to cut it...

The obscessionj continues...2 trips to the marine supply store and 2 other places for 20 feet of fuel fill and 20 more feet of vent line, an access hatch, clamps, etc....I had to cut a hole in the gunnel to access the fuel fill and vent fittings..of course the bastids at the plant used lock nuts that I could not get off...but was able to drill them out..power tools are great....tank was sanded and the pitting was filled in with marinetex and then the entire tank was coated with coal tar epoxy...I bought 1 gallon and a quart of activator from Grainger for $55 ..it only took a half gallon to coat the 93 gallon tank....by the end of the day the tank was reinstalled and resecured....hoses are going in tomorrow and God willing she will be floating behind the house by the end of the day,,,,wish me luck!

Hello Folks.....the ordeal is almost over...after another brutal weekend working on the boat while everyone else was enjoying the great weather and the good fishing...I got the main tank in and replaced the fill hose and vent hose..what an ordeal...had to cut an access hole in the gunnel and another one in the deck so that we could get the hoses through the stringers.....
