Hi,

I wanted to change my water pump on my 200 hpdi. I'm having trouble getting the woodruff key out. I tried tapping, heat, pulling on it, and it just won't come off. Help :?: :?:
Thanks,
Lenny

When I last changed mine I had the same problem. Since the pump kit came with a new key I clamped a set of vice grips onto the key and tapped with a hammer in all directions until it slid loose.

Be careful not to mess up the key slot, tapping in parallel with shaft should reduce the risk.

Just for a consensus, when replacing impellers do you all replace the whole assembly (o-rings ,etc) or just the impeller? I usually take the more cautious route.

I replace the whole works while I have it apart.

Have found the dremel the best approach to a stubborn key.

I used a dremmel tool to remove the key. All the banging in the world would not move it. So it is now put back together and reinstalled on the boat.

Thanks for all the responses.

i had a bad one

use my little bic lighter, PB blaster, biggest punch in my box and a 10LB rubber hammer

what a pain

i filed the keyway and used a ton of grease on the new one

problem is yami uses stainless on driveshaft and a dissimilar metal on keyway

go figure
