Cutting front of bow rail out

Anyone ever cut the front of the bow rail out to make it easier to get one and off using the pulpit? Thinking about doing it on my 272 Sailfish. Pretty sure I've seen it before, just wondering of there is any specific way to do it to keep the integrity of the bow rail.

    Sailfish Cockpit Drains

I know a lot of guys have done this themselves, looking to do them on my 272 this Spring, but just as a comparison has anyone ever paid a shop to do it? Just wondering how bad of a killing they'd charge for this job.

Trim Tab Cavity Vents - '96 272 Sailfish

Figured it out, guess they are pocket vents, so definitely should not cap them. Does water ever go through them and into the hose that is attached?

Trim Tab Cavity Vents - '96 272 Sailfish

Can someone tell me the reason for these in the pic below? Not the tab cylinder, but the vent at the top of the cavity. Looks like they go from the trim tab cavity up and out into the engine well. Are these just to let water push up through the cavity and drain out into the engine well? The...

    Copper Steering Lines

Yeah this was pretty much my train of thought. I believe helm, cylinder/ram and tie bar are all original from '96, and of course copper lines. Thinking while everything is apart, might as well replace it all. Doing all new battery cables and fuel lines for the re-power anyway, might as well...

    Copper Steering Lines

Hard to tell, they look ok under the helm and the small amount that comes out into the bilge, can't see the bulk of them. Doing a re-power and have everything apart, kind of figuring it's a good time to replace 30yr old copper lines, but don't really know their lifespan.

    Copper Steering Lines

Any reason to remove/change these out after 30yrs? '96 Sailfish. Do they eventually rot, leak, break, etc..?

    272 Sailfish re power

Fish Magic, how does your 272 plane with the 4cyl Zukes? Considering them for my '96 272. Wondering if they have enough torque to get it up and out of the water.

Highest HP a 272 Sailfish can take

Not really asking about ratings though. Ratings were based on what power was available at the time. Marlins originally came with F225's. No doubt at all they can handle 600 just fine.

Highest HP a 272 Sailfish can take

Have seen some older (94-97) Sailfishes around with 300's on them. Other than the weight/ scuppers when sitting, which they don't look that bad with, is there any concern of 300's being on these hulls. All are the stepped hulls without the full running surface. Any reason the euro transom...

    30 Marlin with F225's

Came across an '03 Marlin with F 225's on it. Looking for anyone who has run one with these, I know they were on a lot of Marlin's and the also the 33 Express' for a while before the 250's came out. The owner said he runs about 18 mph at 3600 RPM, I don't like the sound of that. I'd probably...

    shrink rap or not

I agree, I have seen nothing yet that, other than shrink wrap, that has been able to deal with an 18-24" snowfall without a problem. I was looking into buying a fitted/custom winter cover, for my 272 Sailfish it would be around $2200 and they say it is good for 8-10 years. My boat costs $300...

    Used Grady Parts

Wondering if anyone knows a place online that sells parts for older Grady's or really if anything like that exists. I need a box cover on the port side of my 1996 272 Sailfish. It was busted up and delaminated when I bought the boat 3 years ago, about the only thing not in great shape, and has...

Got the call Yamaha F225 owners dread

2002 - 2005 in the F225. My brother has twin '05's, and they are rotten. I've heard if the bottom of the powerhead/mating surface gets corroded too bad, it's new powerhead time. I know it can be welded, but you have to find someone that can do it. I guy I know who has done A LOT of them, said...

    shrink rap or not

100% agree. I'm in NY too (LI) and just the icing and thawing of water and/or snow on the deck, gunwales, ect.., can eventually cause issues. Even if it's below freezing outside, the sun blaring down on it will cause the melting and re-freezing. I've seen decks lifted too, but more so have...
