Getting ready to install my new fuel tank

I installed a new tank in my 89 sailfish, the plywood bulkhead between the two tanks was glassed in the sides and bottom but the top didn't even have paint on it. So it was rotted all the way down with no strength to it at all. Saved alot of work by cutting that out and having one big 200 gallon...

When is it time to replace gas tank?

I pulled my tanks and just had one big made to fit in the hull, believe it or not I went from a combined 202 gallon (as per grady) to 195 from the fab shop. It was etched and coated, I re did (simular) the tank pads, I made a new support that looks like a railroad track and glassed it in. Next I...

    Fuel tank question.

Haven't been on here in awhile, rehab 89 sailfish. Took out back (aux) tank, cut the rotted bulkhead between the two tanks out. The bulkhead wasn't glassed at the top, hmmm i wonder why it rotted. Next I removed the front tank. Glassed in a two tank support rails (looks like a railroad track)...

    Keep the Aux fuel tank????

200 gallons of gas is 200 gallons of gas. 2-100s , or 4-50's it doesn't matter. when it was time for new tanks i opted for one big one. cut the allready rotted bulkhead out between them and measured twice. never understood the two tank theory anyway. no valves and hoses to fuss with underway...

    Scuppers

89 sailfish, bracket twin 200 hpdi's. mine are also under water at rest however i trailer that beast so i sleep at night. the floor drains have a check ball under the strainer cap. that keeps the floor somewhat dry while fishing in the waves. at the dock if the boat had a scupper hose failure...

    bleeding hydraulic steering lines

easy peasy lemon squeezy. go buy alot of clear plastic tubing that fits the cylinder bleeds. hook up the bottle to the helm with the over priced plastic fitting. cut a small hole in the bottom of the bottle (rig up the bottle to free your hands) run the tubing from both bleed screws up to the...

    Pennzoil synthetic

Looking to get my first Grady!!!!

there's plenty of other things to look at besides hp. if everything else is cool and the engine runs great....or you could find one with a 175 and it runs like crap. a smaller engine that runs great is better than a bigger engine that throws a rod out of the block. but that's just me.

my windows and hatch cover leaked like they weren't there. 100% silicone calk and painters tape. dug out the old caulk and taped off the widow frames and around the the hatch gap. lost use of the hatch but it looks as good as it seals!!! :D

    exhaust gas in telltale

it would also be sucking water in if a head/gasketing problem is happening and your plug would be clean and wet. probably hard to start too. water (steam) will scrub carbon and the head will be shiny with little carbon build up.
