    Launching with wet tires

The Tacoma sits pretty high being the TRD Off Road model and I had the straight mount that day. Thinking it was hanging up on the front target bunks too much, never touched the back of the rear bUnks till I pulled it. If I flatten it’s angle a bit to put the target bunks lower it’ll still glide...

    Launching with wet tires

Ok out of curiosity I measured the axle centerline on the Chevy pickup, Jeep Commander and Tacoma. Tacoma 50” Jeep 51” Chevy 56” Not a lot of difference there. Going to use the drop hitch next time even if the tongue angle is a little low. Perhaps that will bring the rear of the trailer up and...

    Launching with wet tires

Incidentally I just bought a new trailer for my aluminum boat. It’s 15’ and had a trailer for 12-16’ boats when I got it. Two weeks ago I was working the bugs out of the boat before we were to take it on vacation and the bunk mounts decided to break. They were rotted so ya. Not wanting to handle...

    Launching with wet tires

Better hose it all down good afterward if it’s in salt as it’s murder on brakes. Also never ever go over the hubs because if salt gets into the ends or thru the vent your in for a $1,000 repair bill for that differential.

    Launching with wet tires

I do all my own mechanical work so I don’t like creating problems requiring I fix them and dipping my vehicle in salt water isn’t something I want to do. I launched at low tide so I figured that was the issue but It was high when I retrieved it. Both time the tires got wet. Never had that issue...

    Launching with wet tires

Never thought I’d see the day but I launched the Grady today and retrieved it and it actually needed to get the rear tires in the water on the ramp. I’ve launched with my Chevy K1500 and my Jeep Commander and today was the first trip with our new Toyota Tacoma TRDOff Road 4x4. The...

    Mice !

Wish mine had the hardtop at times. Guess there’s still enough cabin door there to hold back a rush of water. I always close and lock my cabin when entering our inlets on rough days with the idea that if I catch a wave over the stern it’ll confine it to the back deck. I’ve gotten water over the...

    Antenna wire

Cool ! It is a Standard Horizon radio and Shakespeare antenna. The mass of extra wiring and cables really bother me. Glad to hear I can reduce som of it. Thanks.

That’s a problem that needs to be solved because it’s going to happen again.

    Antenna wire

Trying to neaten up everything in my boat and one of the small things that had bugged me is the extra 12’ of coax cable for the vhf that’s in my helm box. My antenna is literally 2-1/2’ from my radio. With the routing of the cable I’m thinking it only needs 5 maybe 6’ to reach with a little...

    How slow will it go?

I’m sure you know with twins if you want to go slow you can run one engine but leave the second in to provide drag and if that’s not enough you can drag a bucket or two behind you. Buckets also work well to slow a drift.

    Mice !

I’ll also leave paper towels in the cabin as sacrificial nest material so if they do get in they don’t shred something else. Also it’ll be a clue to their presence if I see it torn up.

    Mice !

I had to wash my cover for the top that lays stored in front of the wIndshield because it was covered in cat hair ! My neighbors big Tom cat goes up under the boat cover and sleeps on it. The mice aren’t stupid they were running around in the cabin. I keep that locked to keep raccoons and...

    Mice !

Getting a very late start for the season and getting things cleaned up after storage. Also moving towards updating the electronics. Removing the external gps antenna and it’s five miles of coax cable all zip tied up and jammed in behind panels, wires connected to whatever they were before the...
