Looking for Recommendations for combination GPS / Fish Finde

Re: Looking for Recommendations for combination GPS / Fish F A combination unit for $750 doesn't leave much, Lowrance HDS5. A 5" screen is OK as a FF or plotter but fitting both is futile, just choose which you want at that moment. If you can step up to a 7" (about $800) you'll be happier.

Gelcoat cracks in 6 yr old boat

I can see the cracks by the helm being from screws but cracks on the transom isn't right. Gelcoat can crack from being flexed too much or from being too thick and "normal" flexing. If someone just ground the transom cracks a little and sprayed new gelcoat without looking into the reason the...

    engines

My friend has a 470 in his Welcraft. When tuned up and running properly it's fairly economical and has decent power. Keep the cables lubed and an eye on the riser.

Type of Paint to use for Bracket?

People have had mixed results doing what you're doing, be sure to clean off all corrosion so the primer has a good bond. As far as anti-fouling, don't use anythig that's copper based, it will say safe for Aluminum.

    '99 OX 66 "Spring Tuning"

Be VERY careful changing the t-stats. It's very easy to snap one of the bolts on the housing, been there done that.

    Replacing 1983 Seafarer floor/gas tank

Making the transom as strong as original would be OK for any modern 200 HP (2 thirsty 5 was gros not net). It looks as if you're going to go with 3/4 instead of the original 1/2" which is stronger but will weight more, how did she sit in the water before? Any new motor 2 stroke or 4 stroke is...

    radar 36 vrs 48

It depends on what you're trying to see. Either range is well past the Earth's curvature, the narrower beam is better to pick up small targets far away (diving birds). If all you want to pick up are boats and markers, save the $800. Or better yet put the $800 towards satellite weather.

Dual Engines on a 232 Gulfstream

It can be done but don't expect to have the same spin speed as a twin inboard. Trim the motors up and practice, if you have to fight the wind and/or current, you're going to need throttle.

You have to do the wiring too or don't even start.

A Sailfish is the minimum but to be comfortable you're looking at a Marlin or 33 Exp. Then again it's easy to spend other people's money.

    towing my boat

In many states you can only tow oversize during daylight hours and not on Sunday. I've seen many oversize boats being towed by my marina and I highly doubt any of them had permits. Unless you get into an accident I doubt they are going to care or even notice. If you're going a long distance...

    Repower

The transom isn't the issue. The motor weight isn't going to hurt the transom, the 400 HP pushing on it while pounding in the water will. Aside from the Yamaha motor spacing, the common problem with 4 strokes is the added weight pushing the scuppers lower and throwing the boat's balance off...

    info on a 1994 25' sportbridge

That's the first year for the eurotransom? Top end should be 45+ MPH, assuming carb motors 1 MPG for rough seas to 1.2-4 moderate seas and close to 2 on glass. At a slow troll you're still sucking down 3 GPH each motor.

    1892 24' Offshore transom question

If you're worried about transom weight, you can get the twin bracket from Hermco but it may give too much lift. How did the boat sit before? When I went to the Hermco bracket on my Sailfish, it raised the scuppers a good 2".

    25 foot Grady White

I have a '91 Sailfish, basically the same hull but a little different layout. For fishing 4-5 is comfortable (troll) or 6 if someone goes up front when you drift. For just cruising, up to 8 is doable. If it's an I/O those numbers may be tight. What else do you want to know?

    Overheat Warning

Yea, if it's original the culpret is most likely the poppet. If it can't seal well enough, at idle too much water bypasses the motor and you run hot but when running there is enough perssure for for motor even bypassing some of it. 2 bolts, new gasket, o-ring, plunger and spring, it's an easy...

Here we go again...maybe hi fuel costs

It's specualtors bending us over a barrel. We did basically nothing to prevent 2008 from happening again. Iran "stops selling" oil to countries they never sold that much to and threatens to shut down the straight. What's the longest time they might be able to shut it for 1 week? Iran needs...

    1986 CC Transom Problem

I agree it seems you were fed a line of BS. The cheapest way to fix it is to do it youself, you can reinforce the transom but if the middle is mush it will not do any good. Nidiabond is probably the easiest and cheapest way to do it.
