Bimini Top and All Curtains from a 1996 Seafarer

I bought this boat in FL this October and brought it out to Oregon where I am having a hard top made. The curtains are like brand new and I don't think the previous owner ever put them on. I have all of the curtains, the front, sides, and back curtain and a carrying bag. The bimini top...

    Tell us about your boat/build

Man, I sure missed going to Port Hardy this summer; I had gone for 11 years in a row until this darn Covid thing kept us Yanks out of Canada. Hope things get straightened out by July! Boat will be stored in my brother's barn from November through April and I will moor it in Newport from...

    Tell us about your boat/build

I'll play. Grew up around boats as my dad was a fisherman, but didn't get in to owning my own boat until about 17 years ago. Started out with a couple of jet sleds because I thought that would be cool to be able to run up the rivers here in Oregon. Enjoyed those boats, but longed for...

    Question on Gimbal Mounts

I run my downriggers off to the side of the boat and then run a couple of rods shallow straight out the back in the prop wash. Some days the back rods hardly get bit and sometimes they are MONEY! Fish mostly for salmon in Oregon and Vancouver Island. I will sometimes stack on the...

    Question on Gimbal Mounts

Thanks, everybody. I am going to order some 1.5" rod holders and I am not going to try the gimbal mount downrigger base. I think it would be pretty catastrophic if an issued occurred and I don't want the rod holder mount exploding and losing an electric Scotty. I am going to make up a...

    Question on Gimbal Mounts

Yes, I am leaning toward just drilling the holes and permanently mounting the downrigger base. I was also thinking of using a backing plate would be necessary if I go that route.

    Question on Gimbal Mounts

Two questions really! 1. Which size tubing for a 1996 228: 1 and 1/2 inch or 1 and 3/4 inch tubing? 2. Anybody use a gimbal mount for Scotty downriggers? I like the idea of not drilling holes to mount the mounting plate, but I wonder about the torque and stress of a downrigger dragging...

    Removing Bolsters on a 228

1996, and I think they have been on for a long time. I have tried just pulling straight up, but maybe I just need to try harder!

    Removing Bolsters on a 228

Want to take them to a local upholstery shop but not sure how to take them off. Looked on the back side and did not see a bolt or nut to take off. Suggestions appreciated.

    228 Kicker Placement

On all of my previous boats I have always had the kicker on the port side. However, I am seeing more pictures of 228s with the kicker on the starboard side. The swim step is already on the port side, so I would have to move that if I were to go with port side. I just bought a used Yamaha T8...

    Kicker motor on A 228

Thanks for posting the "Kicker mount" thread - helpful information. What shaft size are ya'll using?

    Kicker motor on A 228

If everything works out on inspection this weekend, this boat will be making the trip to Oregon soon. As far as kicker placement, any recommendations for after market bracket? Also, will I need an XL shaft or just an L. Finally, I would like to place it on the port side and move the ladder...

Serious now about joining the Grady crowd!

Well, I first posted on this forum around 9 months ago when I was just toying with the idea of selling my aluminum Pacific Northwest boat, and, I took the plunge and recently sold it. I'm looking in the 22-24' range and Seafarers are at the top of the list, but I am finding them a bit hard to...

    '93 Seafarer

It's been a while since I have posted here! Still toying around with the idea of selling my aluminum boat, and I am pretty sure that my next boat will be a GW Seafarer. I live in Oregon, and have been browsing Craigslist nation-wide off and on; don't see that many listed here on the West...

    New Guy from Oregon

Wow, you all have been very helpful; I can tell you are as passionate about your boats as I am! I've attached a picture of my current ride for reference. As I stated, I love this boat and am not sure that I want to sell it, but am seriously considering it. One more vocabulary clarification...

    New Guy from Oregon

My thinking on a kicker motor is that I would rather put tons of hours on a $3,000 9.9 horse rather than tons of hours on a $20,000 250 HP!!! Kicker motor can always get me back in (although slowly) if my main poops out.

    New Guy from Oregon

Thanks for all of the input so far! For clarification, in the Arima world, a hardtop is a fully enclosed cockpit with glass windows all around and is generally shorter in height. What they call a "skiptower" is what I see on Gradys - hard top but taller and with plastic curtains. I take my...

    New Guy from Oregon

Not currently a GW owner, but am thinking about purchasing one, so I did some research and found this site. Here's a bit of my boating history: my dad bought a brand new 1970 16' Seaswirl with a 90HP Johnson when I was 7 years old. We fished the heck out of that boat and even made frequent...
