Trim / Tilt position when docked

After returning to the dock for the day and bringing the engine all the way up and out of the water, do you need to engage the manual stopper and then retract the trim/tilt rods back into the cylinders? I have been told to just raise the motor all the way out of the water, but thought I read...

    Power Trim Fluid

Is the power trim/tilt fluid that Yamaha manufactures the same as ordinary power steering or automatic transmission fluid? Other than being twice as expensive, is there any difference? Let me know what you use to top off the reservoir

Thanks Bob. I have the owner's manual but I can't seem to find anything in there about topping of the hydraulic fluid.

    Power Trim/Tilt Problem

I seem to be leaking hydraulic fluid from my engine trim pistons. I think I may have forgotten to trim the engine all the way down last week when I was working on the boat in the yard. Now when I try to move the engine up or down, it moves very slowly, but I don't see any fluid leaking out...

    Woodruff Key

After trying everything else, I finally resorted to the dremel to get the key out and it worked. Unfortunately I did put a slight groove in the edge of the key slot on the drive shaft with the cutting disk, which was the reason I didn't want to use the dremel in the first place, but hopefully...

    Woodruff Key

Thanks Bob. I guess I will try the Dremmel. Heat and Hammer & Awl have not worked. I am worried about accidentally cutting the drive shaft but I'll just try to be extra careful.....The rest of the job has gone like clockwork. The key has been a huge pain in the A_ _!

    Woodruff Key

I am in the middle of changing out the water pump on a Yamaha F-225 and can't get the woodruff key out. I have read the posts about using the Dremel and may give that a try next. I have also seen recommnedations of using a chisel to drive it out. My question is how hard can you hit the key...

    Cleaning / Polishing Prop

What do you recommend using to clean and polish a stainless steel prop? Will any stainless steel cleaner do, or is there a particular "marine" product that needs to be used?

    Gulfstream Electrical Question

I am having electrical issues with my 2002 Gulfstream. While doing some spring commisioning work, I notcied that the spreader lights and dome light mounted to my hardtop, and the starboard side wiper do not work. Is this likely to be a fuse problem or a wiring issue? Also, does anyone know...

Is there any reason not to use the same wax on the cowling and engine that you use to wax the hull?

    Buffing Question

Sounds like there are many different techniques. I think I will try it by hand and see how it goes.

    Buffing Question

As a rnew boat owner, this will be my first year waxing the hull of my 2002 Gulfstream. Do most people use a buffer to apply/remove wax, or is it better to do it by hand?

    Changing Water Pump on F225

I need to change a water pump on a 2002 Yamaha F225 TXRA. I am a new boat owner with decent mechanical skills and am wondering whether this is a job I should try to tackle myself or if I should turn it over to the professionals. Any idea what the job should cost?

    Remote Control Spotlight

Wanderer 200 - thanks for the advice, especially since you have both options available. I think I will opt for the hand-held.

    Remote Control Spotlight

Thanks for the responses I didn't intend to use the light as a headlight. Just wanted to be able to turn it on on occaision when encountering fields of lobster pots which don't show on radar and are not plainly visible unless there is a bright moon.

    Remote Control Spotlight

Any recommendations for a remote control spotlight? I am thinking of adding one the the hardtop of my 2002 232 to make lobster pots, etc. a bit easier to see at night during trips home from Newport. I looked at a few different models on the West Marine Site in the $200-$300 range with CP...
