This keeps getting better and better... Started off doing annual service. Found water in both gear cases, so pulled lowers to do seals & pressure tests, water pumps, etc. Scoped, discovered corrosion & ordered center section exhaust kits. Scope sucks, so couldn't really see block condition...

Pulled the shift shaft then slide hammer on prop shaft...

It's out... Clamped slide hammer on with a pipe clamp. Re-heated, and it came right out. Diagnosis? I found out you can't pull a counter rotating unit this way, you have to hammer out the carrier and prop shaft together! I watched at least 4 videos, none of them mentioned counter rotating...

Water pump off, which looks good... Thinking about using for another season. Going for the shift shaft next. That is all I have to free up and then what, hammer on the prop nut to pull shaft and housing together??

I used a large flat blade screwdriver and strategically pried back and forth until they broke free, then needle nose vice grips to pull. Do NOT stick a round bar in the bolt hole and pry, the housing is weak and will break. I had to order one after learning that lesson... The annodes are...

Bit the bullet and ordered the tool... I already took a chunk out using a slide hammer, and broke a bolt trying to use a regular puller with chain wrapped.

Yeah, but I don't want to buy the tool unless I have too... I have been adding penetrating oil for a week. All day today have used a slide hammer and heat to the point the penetrating oil sizzles and smokes, no dice. Anyone?

Every time I use a tool on my boat, I buy a duplicate that stays on the boat. Don't forget a big flathead screwdriver with vice grips so you can manually trim down the motors when trim hydros fail... Buy new fire extinguishers. I tried to use one off my boat to put out a brake fire. The gage...

Any tricks to pulling Yamaha Prop Shaft Housings *edited without buying the specific special tools? 04 F225s. I have some basic pullers and such, but haven't figured out how I'm going to get them out. Should I pull them before dropping the lower units?
