    Boat Separation

I just hauled my boat for the winter this past weekend and it does leave a pit in my stomach ending the season. I had a great year with the new motor on my 192. Probably ran the boat more than I ever have in the past and used much less fuel with the 4 stroke. As strange as it sounds there's a...

Poor Grady-White support for older boats.

I guess sometimes it depends who answers the phone but I also had very good support from GW customer service when I needed advice for re-powering my (2001) 192 this past off-season. The rep. spent a fair amount of time researching to make sure that she was giving me the right answers for my...

Went from 2 stroke to 4 stroke in a 19-20 footer?

When I'm running WOT in my (2001) 192 and doing approximately 40 mph I personally feel that's plenty fast for that boat. With the Tohatsu 140 4 stroke I'm getting the power I want and I'm finding that I'm burning WAY less fuel than I was with the Yami two stroke 150 HPDI. I mean like literally...

Water level - scuppers - new engine

Do you have ping pong ball attachments to your scuppers? I added some before I re-powered my 192 (because I'd get water backing in from the scuppers when somebody was seated at the stern while at anchor) and they were pretty effective. That may be the first thing to try since it's an...

Water level - scuppers - new engine

I'm sure the Suzuki 200 will be excellent. The trade-off for that extra weight and power is dealing with the scupper issue which I really don't think is too big a deal. Personally I didn't care too much about top end speed (the 140 Tohatsu 4 stroke gets me into the high 30's which is basically...

Water level - scuppers - new engine

When I talked to Grady White (as recommended by my dealer when I was considering which motor to go with on a reposer) the GW rep strongly recommended going "absolutely as light as possible" with the replacement motor as this scupper issue is well known on a lot of these older GW's and in some...

    First trip to the Vineyard

As an update to Oak Bluff's mooring; apparently the town has implemented a $50 fee for the use of their moorings (whether it's overnight or even for a short transient tie up). They have a couple of kids zipping around in a zodiac (apparently farmed out to the Oak Bluff's Marina based on their...

Went from 2 stroke to 4 stroke in a 19-20 footer?

Are you getting water backing up into the scuppers with the current motor? If so it'll be even worse with the 200 and 40 more lbs. I have a 2001 192 and I replaced my Yami 150 2 stroke with a Tohatsu 140 4 stroke to save 50-57 pounds (after a Grady Factory Rep. advised me to go with the...

    Good bumpers?

I'll put in a negative comment here for the Cabellas/Basspro brand fenders that I had to replace last year because they "broke down" for lack of a better term. The plastic started getting sticky and was leaving residue on whatever it touched. I replaced them with some Taylor fenders from West...

    Show Us Your Grady

My 192 at her mooring (off Waqoit Bay, Mashpee... Cape Cod, MA). And docked at Baxter's in Hyannis while my best friend waits for me to get back...

    265 Capsized of Jersey Coast

In my previous boat (not a Grady) I had two issues where I took on water. One, the first time I launched the boat, when I turned on the live well filler and within seconds the bilge pump turned on because the live well wasn't connected properly and the fill-hose was draining directly into the...

    First trip to the Vineyard

I make the trip to MV very frequently in my 192... it's an easy shot across on a decent day from Waqoit Bay. If I had a 268 I wouldn't hesitate to make the trip on a nice day. If you can do it during the week (as opposed to the weekend) you'll find it a lot easier to get a mooring in Oak...

Motor Refit Suggestions for 19 Tournament

Good point... although the Grady rep. was pretty adamant about saving as much weight as possible. Apparently they made some changes with weight distribution a few years later (mid 2000's) which helped the scupper issue somewhat.

Motor Refit Suggestions for 19 Tournament

These are the weights I'm seeing for the 200HP Yamaha: 240 kg (529 lbs) - 257 kg (567 lbs). The Tohatsu 140 is only 392 pounds (lighter than the other options I researched including the Suzuki). And after talking with the Grady rep. who said, "go with the lightest weight possible on that...

Motor Refit Suggestions for 19 Tournament

Re-powered my 2001 Tournament with a 140 Tohatsu 4 stroke. Not sure that would give you the top speed you're looking for coming from a 200 (I had a 150 Yami 2 stroke on mine)... but you'll sure save a lot of weight off the transom and off the scuppers. The Tohatsu weighs about 100 lbs less...

    Re-Power

Couldn't be happier with the Tohatsu 140 I just put on my (2001) 192. Saved a lot of weight from competitive motors and the dealership (The Boat Guys in Cotuit, MA on the Cape, which also sells Yami's and Honda's, is very high on the Tohatsu. Engine is quiet, smooth, looks sharp. And despite...

Anyone using Digital Audio Broadcast DAB?

I agree that I wouldn't pay more than $5 a month for it but the $5 never really expires... you just have to call and renew... but they'll readily fold to the $5 for 6 or 12 month periods. I won't give them my credit card so I avoid an automatic charge at the end of the renewal (I just tell them...

    Side Mount Throttle Control

I just had my virtually same (2001 192 Tournament) boat repowered with a 140 Tohatusu and I had all of the cables/steering/throttle control replaced. They used a Honda throttle control with the replacement. Whole system works beautifully and I feel like replacing all of that system (forward of...

    Seagull deterent?

I used to use the rotating wire with flags and that was fairly effective but I lost a few of them in storms. I've found the spreading metal wire spreads work just as well and you don't need any wind to move the wires which seems to really help. I keep a few of them on my boat (a large on on...

    Outboard Repower 1994 Tournament 192

Fully agreed. They want me in for a 20 hour service so by then I'll really ave a feel for it. Also agree on the 40 mph and rarely have an interest to top it out (a lot of the area where I do my boating has some degree of chop (Nantucket Sound) so a comfortable planing speed is what I usually...
