    Starboard question

Finally got around to cutting and installing this with a skill saw and a jig saw vs my original plan with a router. Pretty happy with the results consider it was my first time cutting / working with Starboard. Thanks for everyone’s help (especially on the jig blade). Still need to screw on the...

    Upholstered armrests

Did you move the bottom cushions snaps or just ditch them?

    Upholstered armrests

Max366- I’m in a similar situation with my armrests on a 03 228. Question for you. When you took them off, was there a possibility of just leaving them off or does the seat need the depth of the bar to attach to the post? I was thinking about just removing them both which would add a little...

    Starboard question

Hi- I’m finally replacing the marine boards under the steering in my 228 with starboard. I was planning on using the originals as a template and using a router. (See pic) I’ve never worked with starboard before. Any tips / tricks that I should be aware of? Shout out to TAP plastics for thier...

    Water absorption in swim platform

Hi-looks like they didn’t do a great job sealing the bolts for the swim ladder on my swim platform and some water got in there. I had a 4x20” stainless backing plate fabricated for strength, but was wondering if anyone had any recommendations about filling any potentially rotten wood inside...

    228 Livewell Support Arm

I can take a picture tomorrow. One item to be aware of in this post. The eBay struts worked fine in calm seas, but wouldn’t consistently keep the live well hatch open when things got a little rough. I ended up going back to the grady dealer and purchased a strut from them. No problems since.

Replacing rotted bulkhead on 2001 226

Hookup1 - I have the same issue you had on my ‘03 seafarer under the steering wheel. I was surprised the bottom delaminated since I have a hardtop and full canvas, but the boat is almost 20 years old. Anyways, I live southeast of Boston Ma. Any recommendations for where I can get a small...

Best $280 in labor I’ve spent in a long time

Southeast of Boston Mass. Roht Marine in Scituate Ma installed the hoses. I purchased the stainless drains from Bayside Marine in duxbury mass. 90ish for both drains which seemed in line with what I saw on eBay. Overall very happy with the decision and outcome.

Best $280 in labor I’ve spent in a long time

Long over due maintenance on scupper hoses. Updated the deck drains to stainless while they were cutting out the old hoses. Probably could have done it myself, but I’m sure it would have turned in a PITA. Overall, happy with the outcome.

    Decal Question

Heat gun with plastic razors worked awesome (maybe 10 mins a side). The bad news…. Now I know what the boat should look like. Wet sanding isn’t an option right now. I’ve used meguirars one step compound (67) and their oxidation remover (49) to get the hull closer to original color with a...

    Decal Question

Thank you both! Once it warms up here in Boston , I’ll probably start with the heat gun + razor and see how it goes. The port side is pretty dried up so I may give the 3M eraser a shot if it doesn’t cooperate (I hadn’t heard of that tool before). Thank you for the quick replies. I’ll let you...

    Decal Question

Hi- I just received my pendant decals for my ‘03 seafarer from discontinued decals (they look awesome). Question for the group. What’s the easiest way to get the old decals off? I’m a little weary of using a heat gun but I have one if that’s the quickest/ best option. Any advice is greatly...

    228 Livewell Support Arm

All- Thanks again for this information. It was finally nice enough up here in Mass to put the support arm in. It only took 5 mins to pop the old one off, clean the connection, and install the new one in. I can't believe I've put that off for almost 10 years... I really appreciate the help, and...

Then I cut a big hole in the deck

Drifter- looks amazing! I’ve had this on my list to do since I bought my 228 10+ years ago. Any chance you still have your cutout dimensions and the distance between underside support bars? I’m going to ask a local fabricator what the cost would be for them to create a flush mount hatch...
