I have an ACR ResQLink Personal Locator Beacon That I keep on the boat. The battery is overdue to be changed. Has anyone opened one of these up and changed the battery themselves? If so, is it a pretty simple deal with an easy to acquire battery or is it better to send it of to the maker?

You should not change the battery in an ACR ResQLink yourself; instead, it must be replaced by an ACR Certified Battery Replacement Center. These centers are trained and insured to ensure the device is properly sealed, tested, and fully functional after the replacement, which is critical for a life-saving device

There are many informations if you google for ResQlinq battery change to find, including how to change the battery.
However, as above written, its a better idea to have it done by a certified company to avoid that the bacon does not work when you need it.

Thanks for your wise recommendations fellas. There is an ACR Service Center about 30 miles North of me here in SW Florida.

registration is easy. They send you reminder when due. I get one for PLB and one for my EPIRB
Once renewed they send a new sticker in the mail.

Battry replacement is a no brainer if you get the pre-wired battery. You have to get the thread lock out of the phillips head screw. Don't chew it up.
And be careful to get the gasket back in place.

So confusing. I tried for an hour to renew the registration of my PLB. I never could get the "RENEW" button to light up where it was clickable. I finally saw a notice that said, "after 30 minutes you will be locked out". I don't know how long I have to wait till I can get back in. I think it is set up so if you're over 70, nothing works.

Well, I finally got the light bulb turned on......you cannot Renew till you are within 60 days of expiration. Mine expires in March, so I have to wait till mid-January to Renew.
I just thought I would renew at the same time I put new batteries in, but the two things aren't related.

I did my plb a couple of times. It's only a back up for me behind an EPIRB. The latter is done by the pros for what I'd say is a steep price. The PLB no issues doing it myself.

I've done a resqlink PLB battery. Just be careful with your gaskets, cleanliness etc. these units can be self tested afterwards to ensure they're working
