The Windy and Wind Alert apps give 7 day models that are fairly accurate and I cross reference them with NOAA which is currently calling for 5 to 10 kits and 3'-4' swell out to 1000 fathoms. A big comfort factor I like is a prolonged period of calm and a southerly wind for my return so I'm not beating into a northerly on the ride home. If this forecast holds we'll probably see 17' Whalers out this weekend.

ha...you used "northerly" which usually confuses the shit out of people. For those wondering...Northerly means FROM the north not TOWARD the north (northward). A North wind and a Northerly wind are the same. They describe the direction you are facing when its blowing in your face.

Strangely a North current is flowing toward the north (northward). Opposite naming from winds!

Thursday we went fluking at Axel in the am... we did nothing...moved out to Manasquan ridge...no fluke...broke off a hammerhead.....moved out to Mohawk....two 21" fluke, four 17.5" throwbacks and some smaller fluke....quit at 11 am and ran out to MudHole pots to look for mahi. DEAD for miles of pots. Found a pallet floating in the middle of the hole with one 5 pound mahi that would not eat.
Dock buddy got a 58" bluefin and two 40something bluefins on jigs East of Humpty.

I need to fish during the week and get out front to some of the reefs…

Was in the bay between BB and BI on Saturday, 10 different spots and not a bite. Only fished from 630 to 9am but I didn’t see anyone catching anything around me.

However, my lagoon has bunker jumping everywhere. Tossed my castnet to confirm it was bunker and pulled up easily a hundred on my first cast…Of course, I had to head home but would have wanted to liveline them and see what happens

Went to the Monster Ledge yesterday 10/18 for shark/Bluefin trip. drifted with bait with rigs out for both shark and tuna. chummed and chunked until noon with out a sniff. Went on the troll for a couple of hours with the same result. Lots of mammal life and read bait pretty good but nothing happened for us 65.4 degree water. Going to try an offshore wreck trip tomorrow for meat fish
Anyone willing to share the map #s for Toms canyon & Monster Ledge with anther Grady owner ThanYou in Advance

I thought I already replied to this so sorry if this is a duplicate. I'm bringing 2 butters, 1 sardine and I'm going to try to fill my well with peanuts and snappers tomorrow. Running to Resor, troll until I find something, chunk and jig, repeat. Humpty is on my way home so if all else fails I'll end the day there.

NOAA 12300 chart

If you are out of LE inlet the Monster Ledge is out of your way. Toms canyon is on the NOAA Chart , can't miss it.

Tuna bite is in the area of the Resor and Princess.

Probably there is a bite closer for you along the 20 to 30 fathom line out of LE inlet.

Fished behind the lighthouse in BI and my daughter caught a Cobia. Are these typical in NJ? Always thought they were mainly found in FL

Nice! They show up when the water is warm. Some years, like this year, they are common from BI south. They have to be 40" to keep 2 per boat...regs may have just changed.

Tarpon would be a nice catch…

Yes, we let it go as it took a while for my daughter to be able to pick him up as he was really heavy and had some strong tail. So I didn’t even bother looking at the regs, I just remember seeing some huge ones in Florida so I assumed at 30some inches he was a short. He revived nicely back in the water and gave a nice tail splash when he took off.

Nice experience, she’s bragging that she landed the first Cobia in the family.

I'm jealous! We have never caught a cobia on my boat up here. I'm surprised she could hold it. they usually go insane.

We left Highlands at 4am yesterday and made it to the AP a little after 6 and there was already about 100 boats. Trolled, chunked, and chucked, until 1 without a sniff, a few boats caught but it was slow. So we ran to Resor and 15 into the troll the green wide tracker got hit and we landed a decent yellowfin to save the day. IMG_1009.jpg

Nice! I was at the dock to gas up and change oil. Nobody on my dock caught yesterday. Friday they slayed...dozens of release BFT on jigs at Little Italy area.
I planned for today based on the forecast last week...ya that went downhill.... Might run to humps at Little Italy area for sunrise bite all this week. Its a 40 minute ride for me

You must have had a crap ride home in that south wind.
