    Dolphin Diesel

Yes, you will need trim tabs based on my experience with my I/O. The performance numbers shown are about equal to my 454 gas engine except for GPH. I cruise at 22 - 23 MPH with 12 gallons per hour.

    Dolphin Diesel

I have a 25 ft. Sailfish (1988) with a 454 CI, 7.4 liter, Mercruiser GM big block. It drives a Bravo 1. I don't know how much it weighs but it is a heavey combo. It's not the fastest out of the hole but it is respectible.

Had me worrined about a Grady caught in the ice. I put mine inside in Sept. also. It stays on a lift all summer so I have never sealed and painted the bottom

How do you protect your boat from ice in N. MI.?

    downriggers on a 282 Sailfish

My concern was how far aft or forward to mount the rigger. I bought tracks for the gunnel and removed the aft rod holder mounting the track over that hole. This allows for movement aft/forward to an area where it is comfortable for you. You can also mount rod holders in the track. If...

    I/O to OB Conversion

I did a conversion on an 18 ft. aluminum boat 8 years ago. Very happy with the results. She gets a lot of hours on Lake Michigan and in northern Ontario. I removed a 4 cylinder Mercruiser and installed a bracket (50#) and a 115 HP Johnson 2 cycle (350#) It sits very well in the water and...

    Sailfish: helm seats?

I installed Moeller #2090 on my 1988 Sailfish a year ago. I find that they stay much cleaner than the originals. They have the ladder back design and look good. They are a bit wider than the originals I was able to mount them on the original slide mechanism in the same holes. You will...

    If I didn't already have a dock-box

What is the color of the box? Is it white - white or off white like Grady White?

How far back do I run my trolling lines?

Hey guys, Great Lake trollers buy them by the ton. It's not unusual to use three on each side trolling for salmon. (Plus downriggers and dipsey divers) In MI we troll three lines per fishing liscense on the boat. We put our phone number and email adress on the boards just in case. I...

Replacing Duratrim on a '91 Grady

I bought a 4 X 8 sheet of the identical material from a local cabinet maker. It was about $60. I glued it to a sheet of 1/2 plywood and used the old piece as a template. The cabinet maker told me to use a glue that came in powder form mixed with water. I found the powder glue at ACE...

Does trolling shorten the life of a 2 stroke enigne??

Trolling for walleye, which I do a couple of weeks each year, trolling speed will range from 2 - 2.5 MPH. Trolling for salmon, which I also do, is a bit faster at 2.4 to 2.8 MPH. I fish with a Johnson 115 HP 1992 engine. A few years back I put 1,200 GPS miles on the engine/boat in one...

    IO VS OB

I have a 1988 Sailfish 25 ft. hardtop with a Mercruiser 454 - 7.4 Liter. It is rated at 330 HP. I have a FloScan on it for accurate fuel readings. Here is a typical cruise speed for me - 22 / 24 MPH at 3200 RPM using 12 GPH. I usually run with 50 - 60 gallons of gas on board, three...

    Trailer spindle corrosion

There is a product made for this type of problem. You will find it available from an industrial distributor such as Motion Industries or Applied Industrial Technologies. C/R Industries (seal manufacturer) calls it "Speedi Sleve". It is a thin stainless ring about 1/2 to 3/4 inch wide. It...

    Asian Carp

Here is a horror story from our federal government's screw-ups. (Am I concerned about my future health care???) Us fisherman on the Great Lakes are holding our breath. From the Detroit Free Press - "Anglers in the Great Lakes watershed better fish as much as possible in the next decade...
