    Unplugging Engine Gauges

I'm planning on changing the panel where my engine gauges are mounted -- but can't figure out how to unplug them. My assumption is that I need to disconnect each wire / group of wires where they connect and not the black rubber "plug" on the back of the instrument. Assuming that is true, how...

Do I need the Speed Gauge?

I am considering replacing the panel that currently has my tach and speed gauges and replacing it with a panel that has my GPS flush-mounted. With that, there will only be room for one of my gauges... I can get fuel level, speed, and voltage through my GPS display. Am I overlooking any...

Higher RPM + Lower Top End Speed

Thank you for the thoughts. I didn't know a prop could be a little spun and will check that out. Speed has only been determined by GPS. No changes to cruising area, load, or bottom.

Higher RPM + Lower Top End Speed

I am assuming that I need my prop "adjusted" or replaced due to a pitch issue, but curious if anyone can think of any other cause for this issue: My maximum RPM used to be 5500 and my top end speed about 39 mph. In the last year or so, I can get up to 6000 RPM and my top speed is 34-36 MPH. I...

    Battery Voltage (7 and 10 = 12)

In short: One of my batteries is showing 10 volts, the other 7. When I switch to "both" they show 12 (and can start my F225). How can this be? I'd figure it should show 8 or 9... Background My AGM batteries were left on the boat (an oversight by my boat guy) all winter (Boston). They must...

    Which Anchor?

500 feet may fit, but it WILL jam the windlass as there won't be enough room for it to drop properly. I have 300 feet on my 258, with about 20 feet of chain. I sometimes (when I've let a lot out) need to push the line down in the locker to un-jam the windlass.

    Which Anchor?

I use a 22# Delta on my Journey. I also have the 14# -- which is probably enough. If you are going to be on the boat, the 14# is fine in normal conditions. If you are leaving it somewhere, I'd go with the 22# so you can worry less... As long as you can haul it up, it is hard to "overkill" on...

Moisture Reading - How moist is okay?

How moist is okay for a transom? My boat spends the winter out of the water and the summer on a mooring. Is this reading okay? Other spot-readings were similar or better (dry).

    F225 Exhaust Corrosion Kit

I'm not sure my engine needs this (yet), but got a quote today of $522 parts and $2,400 labor. I was expecting labor at half that price. Anyone else have quotes to compare?

Which is stronger: Bow Cleats or Bow Eye?

In anticipation of foul weather, I am thinking about how best to secure my 258 on the mooring... Should I secure it to the mooring via the bow eye (for trailering) or are the bow cleats (how I normally secure it) a better choice? :hmm

    Speed Limits

I think it is "unlimited" from the sea past the airport, then 10 MPH until the Coast Guard Station, where it becomes no wake 5 MPH.

When is it normal to start pounding ?

Lew: I have a 2003 258 Voyager (Journey) in Marblehead with a F225, I am also a former sailor (in Southern California), and I don't fish. I am not sure if we have the same hull - is yours the V2? I find the water pretty flat in our area and can often run at 4500 - 5500 for 30-37 mph...

    Prop Damage: Repair or Replace

In a mysterious turn of events, my prop has been damaged (I don't know how / when). When I bought the boat 4 years ago, I had the prop reconditioned. Should I be buying a new prop or can this be repaired? All three blades are damaged. See Photos:

    Mooring question

I think the mooring companies use concrete blocks of various weights - you may want to check with them. For those conditions, you may want to bump up a size or two Mooring where 3-5 foot seas are the norm seems imprudent.

    Yamaha F225 Problems?

All Appears Well My 2003 F225 was just inspected and came back clean -- as far as the technician could see with the scope. He indicated that to be sure, the power-head would have to be removed (not doing that). The technician said that his Yamaha Rep indicated that the problem was known...
