Type of prop for F225 on Grady 258

Sorry for the delay. My prop has a big 17-M on it. Not really sure what that means. I am pretty happy with the performance (quick to plane and top end around 39 mph), but my fuel economy is more like 2.2 - 2.5 at best.

    Trim Stuck; Leaking?

Ram looked fine - nothing unusual. Do I need to rush to fix this?

    Trim Stuck; Leaking?

It took several attempts to get my Yamaha F225 to go down the other day. The tilt was working fine as was the port trim piston. The starboard would not retract. After several attempts, it worked fine the rest of the day. I'm sure one of you will know exactly what the issue is after looking...

Type of prop for F225 on Grady 258

Steve: I'll try and check mine tomorrow. The speed looks about right in the link Rob provided (rather than what is on the Grady site) -- but I don't think I get the fuel economy... - Robert

Trip Report: Marblehead MA to Nantucket

The chart elements come from screen captures from the Garmin mapping software on my mac -- very easy to do.

Trip Report: Marblehead MA to Nantucket

Thanks for all the replies! A few of you asked questions, here are the answers: The middle of the canal was about half way for me - so figure about 2 hours on the south side. Probably about 90 minutes from Woods Hole to Nantucket on the days I went -- but could imagine it taking 2-3 times...

Trip Report: Marblehead MA to Nantucket

Just thought I'd report on my cruise this week to Nantucket from Marblehead (north of Boston) via Cape Cod Bay, Cape Cod Canal, Woods Hole, Vineyard Sound, and Nantucket Sound. 120 Miles each way. I was very fortunate with the weather: 5-10 kts of wind, very little wave action, and decent to...

    Cracked Battery -- Why?

Thanks for the all the comments. I didn't see evidence of melting. Since the crack went in, I am going to go with that it was either (1) Dropped, (2) Crushed, or (3) Somebody got very aggressive with the post in removing the nut last year. In any event, my "boat guy" has apologized for the...

    Cracked Battery -- Why?

Maybe they stacked them all up and this was on the bottom... Thanks for your thoughts - I'll post how it turns out. - Robert

    Cracked Battery -- Why?

It is an AGM (Sealed / Glass Mat), so no water to add... Could it still freeze? Also, it looks like the post is pushed in, not out -- that's why I suspect a drop (landing on the post). Here is a closer shot:

    Cracked Battery -- Why?

Just launched for the season and was inspecting the work done to prepare my boat. I see that my two-year old AGM battery has a big crack by the negative post. It had been removed for the season. I've pulled it from the boat (assuming it is unsafe), but before I complain to the guy who...

    Waterline Adjustment for Bottom Paint

Thanks for the advice. I don't think there has been much of change in the waterline since I've owned it (3 years), I've just not addressed the issue. I think the photo shows the boat with a near full tank. Perhaps the anchor line (in the photo / mooring line (as normally stored in-season)...

    Waterline Adjustment for Bottom Paint

I think I need to add 2 inches to my paint in the bow for next year - have it taper up since the stern looks good. Anything I can do about that scum line? I scrub it every week or so... Any suggestions / guidance? http://www.flickr.com/photos/alpertphoto/3153698919/...

    Solid Ice in the Bilge

Seeking thoughts on what damage may have occurred due to a delay in winterization. My boat was pulled a month ago, but the guy I have servicing it apparently hasn't winterized it yet. We've had several days of temps in the 20s... Went to take a look today and found a couple of inches of ice...

Secondary Fuel Filter: Red Ring Askew (E-10 Issue??)

I just had my F225 serviced for the season by an authorized tech. In checking the work (oil level, etc.), I noticed that the red ring on my secondary filter (the one inside the engine cover that shows if there is water) is askew -- not floating level. It looks like it came off the piece it is...

    Simple Anchor Question

I carry both - the Delta on the roller and the fluke type (Fortress) stored away. Delta is good in almost everything. Fluke is for sand and mud and as backup. Bigger is better and use lots of scope... Dealer may be trying to save you or themselves some $$ as fluke is generally less expensive.

Bilge Pump Size - Why so small?

My 258 has a pair (one in the stern and one mid-ship) of 1300 gal/hour pumps. Fortunately, I have not had much water down there, but was wondering why the pumps are relatively small compared to what I see available from Rule (for example 2000 gal/hour is a 50% boost). Are there obstacles...

Worthwhile to repower Journey from F225 to F250? Suzuki 300?

I have a 2003 F225 on a 258 with fewer than 200 hours on it and a yearn for a touch more speed and the new instruments. Do you think I'll get much of a boost in cruise and top end? Is this a $10k trade up, more / less? Thanks! - Robert
