shift/throttle cable hard to move- Johnson 175

any tips on how to remove the shift/throttle cables? I took off the plastic rectangular plate that covers the cables, but it seems pretty tough to get low down enough to remove the clips that hold on the cables. Is there something I am missing here, or is it just a little difficult to remove...

shift/throttle cable hard to move- Johnson 175

I have a 1997 Johnson 175 Oceanrunner with a shift/throttle cable problem.. It is extremely difficult for me to push my control lever forward or pull it back to neutral. It does seem to go into reverse more easily. I was wondering do I check the cables first or the motor? Thanks for any...

    Johnson o/b electrical

Lately I have been having trouble starting my 1997 Johnson 175hp Oceanrunner. It is not the engine, rather it's the control assembly. It is difficult for me to find neutral with the controls. Is there a switch on the control assembly or is it an issue at the motor? Until I find the correct...

    Start problems-1997 Johnson Oceanrunner 175

Have a 97 looper that I put to bed and all was running great. Today I go to start and it fires right up, but keeps stalling out after a couple of seconds. Then after a few more tries it starts again runs a little, blows a lot of the fogging smoke out, and stops. Finally I quit trying...

Water pooling in forward locker drains

I have a 1985 Fisherman 204 and noticed that water is pooling and not draining out of the 2 forward lockers in the bow area. I thinkthese lockers are supps=osed to drain out the starbard side forward thru hull. Does anyone know how to clear these out? Thanks! Gradyrod

wet core in area of hull near thru-hull drain

Side of hull is cored.. Bob- The hole I'm referring to is in the side of the boat, not the transom. It was a drain for a locker, not the cockpit drains in the transom. I did pull out a bunch of wet material (core) and right now the area is drying out. I plan to add reinforced epoxy with...

wet core in area of hull near thru-hull drain

Thanks Bob, but could you please tell me what 1708 is? Great description of how to!! I already have the large hole saw so it' s off to the races! I will do this on the side of the hull though, not the transom. I don't think the transom is bad at this point. Gradyrod

wet core in area of hull near thru-hull drain

Here's what I've done so far... I drilled holes and used a hack saw blade with a hook to pull out any remaining core mush (there wasn't much). No water came out the drilled holes. I plan to use a heat gun and air compressor to dry out the area as best I can. What's the best way to fill the gap...

wet core in area of hull near thru-hull drain

I was going to replace my 2 thru hulls on the sides of my Fisherman204. When I removed one of the thru-hulls I noticed a water soaked core. Upon testing and tapping the area around the thruhull, I noticed that about 1-2 feet is soft around the hole. I dug out the mushy stuff as best I could...

Thru Hull Replacements - 4200 or 5200 to bed?

I vote for LifeSeal been using Life Caulk and Life seal for over 20 years now. 5200 is great, but not for any fitting you may want to someday replace or remove. Life seal should be used with a plastic thru-hull, while life caulk can be used with a bronze thru hull. They both work great...

need thru-hull at bottom of locker on 204 Fisherman

I am replacing the side thru-hulls (plastic) on my 1985 Fisherman 204. While removing the hose I cracked the bottom of the thru-hull that allows the aft storage area to drain. Does anyone know the diameter or type of thru hull that sits in the bottom of the locker that I now need to replace...

    Battery tester

Load test at West Marine Guys- West Marine stores generally have a very sophisticated digital battery tester that can, in a few minutes check the battery condition. They use these to test batteries that a customer may want to return under warranty. If you are nice to the store manager...

Size of Thru-hull on Fisherman 204

Thru-hulls I am referring to the two thru hulls on either side that exit the hull at the aft end right at the water line. (Iam not referring to the scuppers in the transom with flappers). They serve to drain identical lockers, port and starboard out to the sea.
